Description
Another concept for one of the secondary characters of the short comic I'm slowly working on.Β I might make some other small changes in the future.I already introduced him here.
His name is Jaresh, and he belongs to a group called New Dawn, who fights for the rights and equality of the non-human races, Herimash (cats), Dwarves and Sa'Jiir (lizards). The only problem is this group's violent actions risk to cause some retaliation from human soldiers and common citizens alike, and of course the targets would be innocents non-humans, who have nothing to do with this whole siuation.
Jaresh' personality is quite bitter, a consequence of his childhood spent in slavery. He generally dislikes humans (with the exception of the few who fight at his side) because of that reason, and he'd be literally ready to die in order to prevent others from suffering his same fate.Β
The huge scar on his face is the result of a cruel punishment he received when he tried to run away as a kid. His masters burnt half his face with a firebrand.

I admitt, as much as i would love to be in your fantasy world. I often forgot how cruel and unforgivabel it can be.Β
And as much as Β i feel sorry for Β Jaresh, The new Dawn harming innocent civilian's is downright wrong.

It can be quite a terrible place to live in, especially if you belong to the "wrong" race or religious group.
Yep, it's wrong, but in their mind it's the only way to achieve more rights. Most of the times they try to avoid unnecessary violence, but if someone stands in their way they have no problems.
(and that is one of the reasons why they are the "villains" of the story)

So are there any non human nations, or did the continent get taken over?Β

No, only humans ones.Β Cats and Lizards never had nations though, to begin with.Β The first ones live in tribes (and sometimes villages or cities) in the forests and never had a form of government, while the seconds are nomadic and wander the deserts in caravans.
The Dwarves had some kingdoms, but they were all conquered centuries ago, and now they live as minorities in human cities.

There are some areas where humans have no control, like the deepest forests where cats live without even knowing about other races.Β I don't know about the rest of the world, I prefer to keep it "open" for the future, if that makes sense.Β So far I focus only on a zone that is about as big as the area around the Mediterranean Sea + Northern Europe.

That makes sense, and yeah keeping it open is a good idea in terms of world building, it allows for more creative use when the time comes.Β
