Description
Another concept for one of the secondary characters of the short comic I'm slowly working on.Β I might make some other small changes in the future.I already introduced him here.
His name is Jaresh, and he belongs to a group called New Dawn, who fights for the rights and equality of the non-human races, Herimash (cats), Dwarves and Sa'Jiir (lizards). The only problem is this group's violent actions risk to cause some retaliation from human soldiers and common citizens alike, and of course the targets would be innocents non-humans, who have nothing to do with this whole siuation.
Jaresh' personality is quite bitter, a consequence of his childhood spent in slavery. He generally dislikes humans (with the exception of the few who fight at his side) because of that reason, and he'd be literally ready to die in order to prevent others from suffering his same fate.Β
The huge scar on his face is the result of a cruel punishment he received when he tried to run away as a kid. His masters burnt half his face with a firebrand.

So am I!Β Seriously, I like your sweeping sense of adventure.Β Your world is populated by rogues, adventurers, all kinds of scalawags, and the furry/human interaction adds to it.Β Great art puts it over the top.Β But above all, your stuff is interesting.Β I don't even try anymore because people like you put my stuff in the shade.Β Keep it up!

Thank you SO much! I'm glad you like my works and characters, it really means a lot!
Never stop trying! Seriously, my drawings were absolute crap until I joined DA, practice is all everyone needs. The "natural talent" helps only a bit, the rest is all practice and motivation.

I once had humans in my anthro story, but I hated them so much so I replaced them with anthro birds.

Personally I like having humans in my setting. It always makes me wonder how we'd react in similar scenarios.

Β Well, I've noticed when I make gory scenes, it's extreme on the humans (decapitations and the like), but with anthros, it's just mild violence.

Nicely done on the armour tdetails and textures in general. Seems really worn, the texture shows it.Β

Why are all these cat people on deviantart slaves? What is it with cats and trauma? Is there some secret cult of animal abuse that I'm not privy to or something? And why are the enslavers usually humans? Can't the cats be abused by some other animals or something? Oh well (tickle's the sad kitty's feet).

Because I'm a sadistic bastard and kittens are fun to torture.
Seriously though, I can't speak for others but I believe humans would totally behave like that if another sentient species existed. We are always afraid of what is different and what we don't understand, and giant walking cats definitely fall in that category.

We understand cats as it is. We'd understand them a lot better if they could talk. I have to disagree.

And I have to disagree back. Look at the history of mankind, we had wars and conflicts everywhere, and cultural or physical differences always played a huge role.Β With creatures that look and behave in such a "strange" way it wouldn't be different.Β
Not all humans would be like that, obviously, but I feel the majority would, especially the ignorant and superstitious people of this medieval-like setting.

It was mostly economic and territorial disputes with the occasional ideological or religious motivation for a war. I don't doubt that some discrimination will occur, though.Β

I must be the only one who doesn't show cats as slaves. I actually show them in a more villainous light.

It's good to get to know this new character and his reasons for fighting. Also, I really like how you painted his scar, as it's partily covered by fur yet still noticable.
So the other non-human races such as dwarves and lizards are also abused in your world? We haven't seen much of that side of the story sinceΒ your art mostly follows the cat people, Herimash, so can I ask is the treatment of dwarves and Sa'Jiir just as bad as the one of Herimash?
π: 0 β©: 1
0laffson In reply to AstarGoldenwing [2016-09-11 21:13:20 +0000 UTC]
Thank you, glad you find him interesting! Β Yep, theoretically scars should disappear under the fur in time, but they add too much to the characters to give them up.
Yes, they are quite discriminated, even if usually less than cats.Β Dwarves look like short humans, so not as different as the other two races, not to mention that many of them are insanely rich (they are bankers and usurers).Β The Sa'Jiir are also discriminated, but they are less common than the Herimash in human cities, and most of all they are almost 3 meters tall, with sharp claws and teeth, and that surely helps.
