Description
Genghis Khan, "Khan of Khans", was the great leader of Mongolians. At the end of 12th century, he united Mongolian tribes and challenged other powers to expand his huge Mongolian empire, which extended from South China to the Caspian Sea.In 1277, Khan attacked the West Xia Kingdom (presently Ningxia) and encountered strong resistance. He died of disease and age. The great emperor was later buried secretly according to Mongolian custom. It says that after the burial 2,000 men were slaughtered by some 800 soldiers who were in turn executed so that the location of the real tomb remains a secret.
Genghis Khan's Mausoleum, rebuilt in 1954 185 kilometers south of Baotou, is a mausoleum, in which only his clothing is buried in memory of the great leader. The 5.5 hectares mausoleum includes three giant yurt halls which house coffins of the Khan, his wife, his son and his generals.
There are four sacrifice ceremonies held annually to commemorate the great hero and leader of the Mongolian people. The ceremony, held on March 21st on lunar calendar, is the grandest. After the ceremony, horse racing, archery and wrestling are held as entertainment.

We've studied about Ghengis in my college history course today, sad his reign was short lived, but he did conquer a lot of territory.

Khan was a title, not a surname. His surname was Borjigin

This is an incredible image of a man of personal significance to me. He's actually responsible for me being born (through no intent of his own, but still). When my parents first met, it was over a game of Trivial Pursuits. My father, a Professor, got a question about Genghis Khan. I do not know what that question was, but apparently there was a matter of error over his birth name - my father got it wrong. However, among his circle, it was assumed that he was "never wrong." My mother, knowing better, found an encyclopedia on a shelf, opened it to a page, pointed to a paragraph, and showed it to my father, showing the correct answer was "Temujin" (spelled in that book "Temuchin"). According to my father, he decided then and there he would marry the woman. According to my mother, shortly after making that decision he learned her name.
This great man, from beyond the grave, brought my mother and father together. I'm not sure he actually cared, but his influence was still there nonetheless. It is a truly powerful image of the man, and I very much love it.

I do not want to offend you or to troll, BUT just FUNFACT Genghis Khan tortured and killed many many people. He literally committed genocide of the people. I do not know how then he is considered a hero and have a golden statue or something like that. Perhaps this is becouse the fact that the people like the ancient legends. BUT if it was closer to our own time he would be called a second Hitler and people did not spend the holidays in his honor. ITS REALLY FUCKED UP, REALLY FUCKED UP. the whole fucking world admires him. seemed to not know the history, I do not know. I can not to tolerate this fucked up bullshit... nice dragon tho
