The way I see things, he wears that expression because:
1. He's realized that a powerful goddess that (seemingly) overpowered his teacher has taken a special interest in him, and is appropriately worried.
2. He's in shock because said powerful and evil goddess kissed him, and more or less declared her affections of him. Whether he's worried about this or because 5 other mares of interest (to the story) just witnessed this, is up for debate.
3. That face is his "OH GOD WHY DO I EVEN HAVE A BONER THIS IS SO WRONG" face.

I think Dusk has been traumatized after Nightmare Moon kissed him. Then again, I guess it's kinda expected when an embodiment of pure evil and hatred does that to you.

As long as you are a nice person, which Dusk always seemed to be, the best you can be is a good person, then no one will be hurt.Β
Shit happens all the time, many people are plagued by social inadequacies, or shyness. The opportunities presented to this character are simply a test in how well he can maneuver the landmines, a challenge many would relish.

In terms of story, it's a great premise for this character. However I wouldn't envy anyone who had to juggle people's hearts like that.Β
