Description
[[This is been dropped from the world of Reinverse and is no longer canon to the story.]]
Walking the halls of his castle, King Corvus wondered to himself if he was doing the right thing. It was important that the kingdom have a strong leader, one that would not bend to the wills of others... but the Prince was nothing like that. Skyfall is too shy, quiet and over all far to naive. However there was no other choice that he could see, he had no foals of his own and Skyfall was the only other member of the royal family. There was also the fact he was an Alicorn. That was incredibly dangerous, should the people ever find out there would be revolts and calls for his death.
Corvus growled quietly at this though. He would not allow it, his nephew may be of magical nature but he was the spitting image of his sister. The deep regret of not being in his sisters life after she married haunted him and bound him to the foal. The match was completely unsuitable for his gentle and kind sister, why their father thought handing her off to a idiot like that was a good idea he would never know. At least the foal they had took after his sister, had Skyfall looked or acted anything like his wretched father Corvus would have turned his back on him; he could not bear to to look at anything relating to that stallion.
Still... would Skyfall make a good ruler? He was intelligent, well read, had a regal baring but that naivety would get him killed. Whilst mulling this all over in his head, the subject of his thoughts called out to him. Stopping and looking back Corvus saw Skyfall quickly trot to reach his uncle.
"Good morning uncle." Skyfall spoke softly, looking up at his larger uncle. However Corvus's attention was on Skyfall's head, staring a hole into him.
"That thing is starting to show..." His tone was sharp and Skyfall quickly lowered his head, raising a hoof to the broken horn on his head. It started growing again, showing through his mane slightly.
"I... I'm sorry... um..." He flustered quietly.
"It's going to be a full moon tonight. I had forgotten. Your horn always grows back on these nights." The large brown Pegasus looked out of the nearby window, secretly guilty of the venom that leaked into his voice previously. Having been raised to hate magic and all magical creatures, it was sometimes difficult to move past that thinking.
"Yes, um, why do you think it happens...? I mean, unicorns don't regrow their horns... so why do I?" Skyfall looked up at his uncle shyly, reassured that his uncle would not scold him.
"Perhaps it is to do with what you are... Alicorns were powerful beings apparently." He paused, considering how best to steer the conversation into smoother waters. "Have you heard anything about the council lately? I know they think their little meetings are secret, how stupid."
"Hmm... just about how you should get married-" That earned an eye roll from the large Pegasus. "-and that they've been sending a lot of letters to the battlefront... to Commander War Wing." Corvus perked up at this and he quickly turned to face his nephew.
"They've what?"
"It's true! Scouts have been flying back and forth all the time, there's at least 4 a day here."
"Why has no one informed me of this? I have told them countless times not to interfere with the military! The Commanders are fully capable of handling those matters. What a waste of time and resources sending pointless letters when they haven't even stepped hoof on a battlefield! We are in the middle of a war! I cannot have my soldiers distracted by the whims of old stallions that have never swung a sword in their lives!" The dark Pegasus became increasingly loud and his feathers ruffled, shaking with his barely contained rage.
"The minute I take my eyes off them..." He growled loudly and muttered curses.
"How dare they!" He looks to the young prince. "I will speak with you later nephew, I have something to sort out." And with that King Corvus stormed off, a hard glint in his eyes leaving his nephew who could only watch the ensuing chaos.
