RWBY Chibi season 2 is coming soon!And Penny will be a thing, so I thought I'd draw her.

Wow this is SUPER cute!
I miss Penny so much, with her quirky attitude and loving personality. Though she's gone in the main series, at least she's still existing in the RWBY Chibi series! But even if Penny returned, she'd have to be different, or else it would ruin the whole concept of her death. She could still look the same but have a different personality, or vice versa, but otherwise, it wouldn't be very smart to return Penny to the main series like she was before.

Maybe Penny had some prototype versions made prior to her. I mean, there had to be some kind of prototype stage for her. It would kinda be like that one episode of My Life As A Teenage Robot where Jenny discovers past prototypes of herself and adopts them as her sisters.
Either that, or we could see different android characters made by Dr. Polidina, who all remember Penny as their "little sister". We could possibly see one of them mourning for Penny, or possibly even seeking revenge for her.

Given that they show what we can assume is her creator/father watching on the TV, we can assume she would be repaired but might not remember what happened. There are also a lot of other possibilities.

One of these possibilities: Nanobots. Like, what if there was a horde of nanobots inside Penny, in case something happened to her? They would swarm out and fix her back up within a short period of time.
Like, what if RWBY Volume 5 has an episode that takes place in Vale, where a small group of people make their way through the destroyed Colloseum in search for useful stuff (I mean, there´s lots of Dust there, which the battlefields were made out of), and then, suddenly, Penny stumbles out of a pile of debris. Sure, she looks a bit messed up, her synthetic skin being torn off at some places and all, but other than that, she´s fine. Mostly. Her weapon systems don´t work, so she has to use her swords normally (or just help with organisation and repairing, which shouldn´t be that much of a problem for her).
Or maybe Ruby still has one of Penny´s swords with her. Man, that´d be awesome if some Grimm knocks her away, she drops her scythe and it falls into some hard-to-reach place. Then Ruby just pulls a sword from whereever and makes short work of that Grimm.

To add a bit of tension to it:
It happenes at the same tame. And once Penny 2.0 is rebooted the sword starts glowing (or something like that) and then starts flying back to Penny. (In the same way she controlled them in battle) Ruby gets a slight hint of it, but can't return because there is stoll work to do first.

Good idea, actually, but I doubt that the idea with Penny´s sword flying back to her all the way from Mistral would work.
I mean, she did control them with wires, and I doubt Ruby would, or even could, take the sword along if it was still connected to Penny.
However, Penny´s sword could somehow interact with the CCTS tower in Mistral and send a signal out to Penny, telling her where it is, and then Penny could follow this signal and find Ruby.
Another idea is that Penny´s mind was transferred to Ruby´s scroll, and now that Ruby is close to the CCTS tower in Mistral, it´s being transferred to the tower so it can become active again. Sure, Penny wouldn´t have her body anymore, but she would still be back in some way, and she could do some stuff she couldn´t do before, such as keeping an eye out for Ruby´s friends and notifying Ruby when Weiss, Blake or Yang get within transmission range of the tower.
