Description
Here's the power and the glory to Mr. Incredible's ride. A Ford flathead V8. This one looks to be in the old 100HP vintage, but I'm not positive of that. This engine goes back a long way and was offered in many variants. If you've been around, you'll know one when you hear it through any kind of open or lake pipes by its deep rumble. Lol, you don't even have to look.
And just in case you think it's a washed-up has been, 6 years ago, a 1946 Ford flathead block cranking out over 700 horsepower was used to power a car at Bonneville to over 300 miles per hour! [link]
See, that's the thing about hotrodding. Just 'cause they're old, that don't mean they're slow.

pretty cool. Flat heads are getting harder and harder to find, shame because there awesome and sound great.
700 is a lot for a lot power for a flathead!

I think if I'd tried that, I'd have gone through a few blocks. But I guess the guy knew what he was doing.

Everybody made their own back in the day. I'm not pumping Ford's by any means, though they've really stood the test of time, I guess, since I still hear and see them around. And mostly, they were just run of the mill engines. As far as engine design was concerned they were Fred Flintstone, but they worked. Once the overhead cam engines came along, they were left in the dust by everybody pretty quick - including Ford.

I've had a couple, and liked them. My first car was a Pinto woody (lol) wagon. It was gutless with its automatic tranny, but that was my bad choice. Great memories, though. My next was a 76 Ranchero with a 400 in it. It was awesome and I still wish I had it. Well maybe not so much for its thirst... Over the years, I've had a lot of everything, some good, some dogs. Sometimes a brand that used to be good turned to crap in later years. I keep a 94 Dakota around to get me through the winter and because we hate each other, so I won't let it die that easily.
