Description
I walked down the hallway of the building, heading toward the class that me and that boy shared. I adjusted the strap of my bag unconsciously on my shoulder, getting it loose from my hood as it hung over my face. I ran over the plan in my head, my wonderfully creative head, as my friends have told me.The idea was perfect for this, because ever since that exchange student from Italy had come, it seemed he was on the verge of popular status, even though it was still the first week. Ironically, we had pretty much no classes together other than our history and lunch periods, and he, to others at least, seemed to be only vaguely interested in me. They weren't on the receiving end of his stares, his glances, even when he was chatting up other girls! It grated on my last nerves. I took pride in my handiwork of keeping others away, and though he was no doubt warned about it, was about to get the real thing in his face. Now, just to get the plan in motion...
I heard the ruffling of cloth in the desk behind me as the boy shifted for the enumerable time this hour. I scoffed slightly, making the boy still at once. It was on my nerves, again, that he seemed highly attuned to my posture, going still when I shifted myself, or freezing in whatever task he was doing when I talked to myself under my breath. It was really annoying.
When the teacher dismissed the lesson for us to work on the worksheet, almost everyone started to break into their groups and talk. The boy stayed as I did, and worked on the assignment. I muttered out to myself. I sucked at remembering which events happened on which dates, all of the information getting jumbled in my head. I needed to write it down before I did something stupid here.
"Ciao, may I ask your assistance?"
I turned in my chair, seeing him eye me as he waited for a response. I sighed. "What is it?"
He smiled, getting up and dragging his chair beside my desk and setting the assignment down as he scooted closer.
"I forgot my textbook. Mind if we work together?"
I shifted uncomfortably as he got closer to turn the textbook toward him so he could read it, but instead furrowed his brow as he saw I didn't have a textbook either. So far so good. I stiffened when he looked at me expectantly.
"Sure, but I also forgot mine." He grinned.
"No problema, two heads are better than one anyway, but," he glanced behind him for a second, "it seems we are almost out of time." Time for the most hard part of the plan. Here goes nothing.
"If you want," he said right as I opened my mouth, "we could work after school, seeing how school will be out."
"Took the words right out of my mouth, my friend." I muttered, nodding a consent. "But, I know a place that will...suit our needs. Will you follow me, me amico." I said in a poor Italian accent, mimicking him from all the times I had heard him ask out the other girls in the class.
He scoffed. "It's il mio amico my dear." He smirked. "But I see you pay attention, do you know which place it is that I usually go to, perhaps?"
I leaned back in my chair, resting my hands on my stomach. He laughed at my smugness. My plan was moving right along...
