Description
The character of Gul Dukat ( Deep Space Nine ) is the property of CBS/Paramount Television.I'm pretty pleased with how this came out- even signed it! I chucked the first version and the generic Cardassian in scraps in case anyone wondered...yup, this pic was an eye opener for me. I've made a vow to stay true to my natural way of drawing and just skip those artificial constructs I tried so hard to stick by that just hindered me before.
As for the character: it's Marc Alaimo, who played the role of Cardassian Gul Dukat from the Deep Space Nine series which ran from 1993- 1999. I seriously wish they could bring back the series just for this personality who they 'killed off' in the series finale- before he gets too old to consider it! Edit: Read that he's retired- don't know if it's true. Bummer Marc.
One more edit: this was based off a very tiny picture I found on the web that was up-sampled (

Hell yes, Dukat is the man. I am currently having a DS9 marathon on Netflix. In the middle of season 3. Best of the Star Trek Franchise ever. The character relationships are incredibly rich. My guess is the only reason it ended at all is the budget was too high due to the demand for quality effects, wardrobe, writing, etc- but you gotta give props for Gene for making it happen. Thanks for this lovely drawing! Wish I could draw that well!

I too think it was the best of the franchise. But as for it ending...what, 7 years? I think your ideas are correct but I don't think they had the viewership that the series deserved (needed) either. I didn't like the series originally- 10 years later I did a total about-face and now have the DVD set. Joy!
Thanks for the nice comment- I'm glad you like the drawing and Dukat in particular who is my favorite character in the series.

yeah I think you may be right. I just never want to admit that the viewership was too low for such a great series. Too bad they couldn't have gotten it on HBO or something. You could tell it could have been even so much more if it weren't limited to the confines of ordinary tv.

I wouldn't be surprised if DS9 get remade...even in some alternate reality thing.
Pity the original cast is getting so old although with all that alien makeup I'm sure they could still do the job!

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised either. I'd be torn about watching it. I get nostalgic like that

Amazing!
He certainly is hot, isn't he?
The one thing I'm really noticing is the value- I think it'd kinda pop more if your darks were darker and your lights lighter. Other than that, this is officially epic win!

Thanks- I think so!
I basically ground away at this with an hb lead mechanical pencil and nothing else- went with the flow you could say and didn't want to pick up another lead for fear of wrecking the pic- lol.
I'm debating trying this portrait again with charcoal which is way richer for blacks- thanks again for your nice words and the fav!

I admire anyone who can work with charcoal!
I seem cursed when it comes to art. No matter what I use, I always manage to leave smudges and fingerprints everywhere. Anneka + charcoal = epic failure!

I think smudges and fingerprints are kind of inevitable to some degree- working as strictly from left to right as possible and using a putty eraser a lot is something I have to discipline myself to do as well.

Nice sketch-work...
...Poor Dukat, forever trapped in the fire-caves of Bajor...

I got the series as a gift and haven't got that far yet- I'm not looking forward to it
Glad there's other fans out there!

As I say, never argue with your art, create it as it wants to be created. Rules of proper style is for mechanical drawing of machine parts. All else should be created as your muse leads you.
