Is that the episode where the Enterprise blew up like 30 times? ...Mom really hated that one! Me, I love a good Groundhog's Day scenario.

Nope. That episode was 'Cause And Effect'. In 'Time Squared', the ship found a tumbling shuttle in the middle of nowhere that had a disoriented Picard inside, even though Picard was aboard the Enterprise. It turned out that the vortex in question was some sort of test. There were two possible courses of action, and the one that involved Picard flying into it in the shuttle alone was the wrong one but no one knew that until near the end when doppelganger Picard was lucid enough to say what the second choice was. That secondary option (which seemed really wrong at the time) was to fly the Enterprise right into the vortex without fear.

I don't remember that one ...for what that's worth.
I remember watching the premiere and thinking, they just re-hashed The Tholian Web and a couple of other old episodes to make this! Pass!
Mom and I started watching it again around season 3, I think.

They did rehash a few original series stories in the first season, but it wasn't all bad. It took all of season one for the actors to 'find' their characters anyway.
