Description I recently finished Viktor Hugo's original novel and BOY is it depressing. I knew it was going to be, but I didn't know it was going to be SO FREAKING UNFORTUNATE. So many misunderstandings and so many irritating characters. I hated both Esmerelda and Pheobus with a passion by the end of the book. Frollo creeped me out but I felt worse for him when he died then I did for Esmerelda...who has to be the dumbest chick in ANY novel. The only character I liked the whole way through was Quasimodo...(although, this hardly surprised me) and almost EVERYTHING in the book having to do with him was so unbearably sad. Also, I have to admit he inspires some fairly awkward feelings in the reader. He manages to be both extremely sweet and extremely threatening at the same time. I thoroughly hated Frollo's younger brother by the end of the book, but the way Quasimodo killed him still made me cringe a little.

Sigh, still it was a great book. I was actually fairly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Despite his love for long winded descriptions Viktor Hugo really knows how to engage the reader and he also had something of a sense of humor, which is always good.

Anyways because of all this I'm a little taken with this character. So...yay Disney fanart Oo

Quasimodo belongs to Disney and Viktor Hugo.

VERY stupid. In most instances I prefer the book to the movie, but in this one case... All the characters are waaay more likeable in the Disney version.

I do wish Gringoire had been in it, though.

Gringoire XD I love him.

Esmeralda: What is your name?
Gringoire: Pierre Gringoire.
Esmeralda: I know a finer one.
Gringoire: You are naughty!

My favorite part so far in the novel. XD

What about Gringoire? He's pretty awesome. ^_~ But yeah, I HATE Pheobus and I like a FEW things about Esmeralda... even though I do agree, she is pretty dumb and shallow. I really love the sad depiction of Quasimodo, by the way. She chose the crystal vase! I love Quasi and Frollo the most... but Victor Hugo is better than all of his characters! <3

Yeaaahhh Gringoire was pretty funny...mostly because he was SO unfortunate. Thanks for the comment ^^ Yup Victor Hugo is pretty cool.

that's a VERY beautiful picture... has that "grimace" of his from the novel. lol

i recently read it too. Call me corny, but actually teared up by the end. I am now referring to Phoebus as Phoeb-Ass, and... well some of the lines are still in my head...
*paraphrasing* (after throwing a wine bottle at quasimodo's chest ) "It was the frightful sight of you that mad my wife give birth to a child with two heads!!" --I remember reading that thinking, "wtf?! Where is the science in THAT?!" lol

great pic anyway

Thanks

I teared up two or three times towards the end and Phoebass is a good name for him.

Lol, I forgot about that line, half of Hugo's writing seems to be both humorous and sad. While reading I was switching back and forth between the two constantly.

I still have a number of lines in my head too.

he is a good writer... though a lot of the words i had look up in the dictionary! lol

lotta scenery descriptions... PAGES in length sometimes... lol

i hope to do what you've done; by taking the basic design of Disney and incorporating it to the original story, it looks beautiful...

i'm actually semi-sort working on the pillory one (with that line i stated earlier) that part made me tear a bit...

I was planning on doing a pillory drawing too, but without the Disney look. The Pillory made me sad, but mostl I teared up towards the end when he was talking to Esmerelda. SOme of the stuff he said was so sweet and sad.

I know what you mean about the description. I counted one. The Birds Eye View of Paris chapter was 22 pages of nothing but description.

I like this, it's very sweet and kinda sad. It doesn't looks like a screenshot too much, it has a painting-like look I also like the expression you gave him, it makes him looks more like the book Quasimodo.
I liked him in the book, too The fact that he was both sweet and threatening actually made him more awesome in my eyes.

holy wow. NICE!

Not to start any discussion or argument with anyone or anything... But I tried reading twilight recently... and subsequently deleted the file from my blackberry after getting only 60% of the way through...

Are you sure Esmerelda is the dumbest female character? lol

Although, Hugo had a reason to make her dumb...

13TheWicked13 In reply to fear-is-spreading [2009-06-14 03:46:30 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't know. I've never read Twilight. I heard the writing was bad, and after hearing about the plot I thought it sounded like something out of a fourteen year old girl's fantasy.

I dont know if she's the dumbest character but she REALLY pissed me off. Her obsession with Phoebus in the book makes me think of someone beating their head against a brick wall repeatedly. She was REALLY stupid. I think I hated her even more then Pheobus and he was a total asshole.

At first I thought this was just a screenshot from the movie, no lie.

Sounds like an interesting read, I should probably pick it up sometime and see what it's like. I hardly even remember the Disney movie.

Yea, I was kinda worried people would assume that oo I might re work it so it doesn't resemble the Disney coloring job quite as much...maybe add a few tones or something.
