Description I believe that at some point we have all faced some kind of crutch. An addiction to dependency... Alcoholism is the most renowned addiction. We Drink to lighten up and have a good time, drink to ease the pain, drink to forget, drink to calm the depression and insecurity, drink to sleep, drink to gain the courage... there are so many reasons why we do it and sometimes it goes to far. Sometimes we don't even realize we are on that path to needing it and that’s when you hope to have a good friend that cares about you to help you up before it's to late. Ever been there, on either side? I know I had my moment... and I am thankful to those who helped me see.
With this photo I tried to capture what it's like when you gain stability the next day... only everything is tilted and off balance. Everything is dark and all the colors seem faded and bleak. It's a cold place and you feel defeated and tired. The hair across his eyes symbolize his denial... the fact that he can't see what he is getting into. The colors on the bottle are meant to be vibrant to display the difference in moods... how alcohol can bring back the color to your life for a while and how it looks more pleasant from where you stand... there are many more ways to look at this, so I would like to hear any other input you may have.

It's amazing how the world and life's colors were so much more vivid to me once I stopped drinking.

i like your description of how you use colours but for me it's a bit different: the colour in the bottle shows the key factor in addiction. How despite his/her eyes being covered (s)he still has the ability to find the bottle.

I really think that is a cool way of looking at it. I always love when someone can pull me out of what I see and show me it in a new light.
Thank you for your comment.

I find I have to control my drinking as well... If it's any help, I find that after the first 6 pack, after one develops a healthy buzz, the urge to drink seems to simply be an oral fixation. I try to just drink water after that. It saves $$ and reduces/removes the subsequent hangover. Being sloppy drunk isn't that much fun anyway. For me at least. How long did you stay reformed?

i....never tried that ^^... * tries it next time he's drinking.......

and almost 2 years....and it was going back to the bad place.. but with work, and all.. it's only 2 times a week now.. so those who think they can never drink again to end thier addiction can take heart in that if you can kick the habit, and find new outlets, and lifestyles, you CAN go back without careening back into the abyss ^^

Yeah, been there...

I really like your choice to desaturate the background. It gives the alcohol a hopeful effect, which, to an alcholic, it pretty well is. Their hope to dispense of the problems and weights of life. Also, something I really like, it the broken glass next to the bottle. One could interpret this as: Everything else in this person's life is breaking, yet the addiction remains intact. Perhaps even draining everything else from the person's life. An excellent piece that to me, visually represents the powerful transfering qualities of alcoholism. You trade all the beauty in life for the beauty in a bottle. And that's all your left with. Amazing piece.

Addiction is something EVERYONE has to face at one point or another. I actually became addicted to some sort of downer (I wanna say prozak) when I was only 6 years old. I was unbelievable neurotic and I was prescribed some "medicine" for it. I used to feel the slightest sense of fear and I would take a pill. Eventually my body craved it. And so on, straight into addiction. I eventually overcame it, thankfully. But even at that young and tender age, addiction is everywhere.

But listen to me ramble on and on and on and on and on and on.

You've once again done a great job with this shot. The colour left on the bottle can be seen as almost like a double meaning. How in an alcoholic's life, thier existence is so bleak that truely the only colour left in thier life is that of the bottle itself. It's all the colour in life they still get. The only sign of life.

Excellent.
