You may, but only if I have the right to have it be taken down whenever I wish.

excellent detail, but maybe a better atmosphere would make it even better and smoother on the planet edges. Loving the planet texture

Hah, I don't really remember. I think the 3d render came out pretty well.
Glad you like it. Thanks a lot!

Superb texturing on the planet, I can tell that was the main point of this peice, though the Sun is nice too !

It was just a practice, so I was surprised by how well it came out. Bleh, I wish I had this at high res so I could submit it as a print. Too bad.
Thanks a lot for all your comments and I'm sorry for replying so late.

great work. the planet looks stunning
when you made the texture in ps, how big did you make it? I'm try working with about 2000-3000 pixels but I can't go any bigger

I made it 4000x4000 and I made it recurrent, so I could tile it in 3dsm. Thanks

just use the offset filter and blend the edges, then use that filter once more , blend the edges edges again and tada

This planet is really pushing the envolope! The POV is amazing, and if I did not know better I would have thought this was created in Terragen2. The β3dinessβ on the planet is just amazing man, I am loving this. Personally I do not like the lightflare, but it doesnβt look bad by any means so it works out. I really do not have much to say about this one, keeep them coming!

yeah, well there is a bigger sun much closer which we can't see, because it's blocked by the planet But thanks, I didn't know that. Will take it into account next time

A real throwback to the days of old. Flare is awesomely retro - if it had a few little sharper defraction spikes it would be perfect.
As for that planet, awesome texture, real character. Only problem is that oversharpened part.

19-10 In reply to SamODJ [2007-05-07 20:49:30 +0000 UTC]
Heh, yeah, I love the way people used to do flares. I didn't go for a retro look on purpose, but I guess that's how it came out and I like it.
Old space art is good. Do you think space art has made much progress since, say, 4 years ago?
Thanks a lot man

SamODJ In reply to 19-10 [2007-05-07 20:53:52 +0000 UTC]
Well any genre is bound to make progress. I'm just not sure I like the way it is going. BUT, that said, i think often, in all styles, pieces that take their place as a throwback to the "old days" are always refreshing.

19-10 In reply to SamODJ [2007-05-07 21:02:04 +0000 UTC]
Heh, yeah, I took the retro thing as a compliment. And I meant positive progress. It's unfortunate that some of the old masters of the genre have moved on, but I'm afraid that's simply what happens.

SamODJ In reply to 19-10 [2007-05-07 21:12:13 +0000 UTC]
Yep, it sure does. I mean, the genre is still progressing in some positive ways of course, just can't help but feel that there are an equal share of downfalls.

yeah, a lot is lost. Let's end with a quote from someone we both greatly admire. "I plead to true spaceartists to head the call, and come back to dA. Show us, show all, the true thinking behind this oh so clichΓ©d form of art."

wow dat is echt een chille texture man. heel erg mooi gedaan, ik denk dat ik toch maar een keer 3dsm aan moet schaffen compositie is ook erg mooi btw.

19-10 In reply to battlefield1010 [2007-05-07 20:50:23 +0000 UTC]
ja texture is gewoon PS he.

The planet texture is amazing, I have to learn 3Ds max it would help me out so much and judging by the result you got (from years and years of practice I would believe) then it would be an improvement from my planet making alot
Really nice work, I envy your skills.....
π: 0 β©: 1
19-10 In reply to Epex [2007-05-07 20:55:24 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! The texture was made in PS. I would normally make my planets in PS, but for close planet shots like this one, 3dsm works a lot better for me. I can spherize up to only 4000x4000 in photoshop and then the edges of the planet get to look a bit strange, so I use 3dsm for big planets. I've only used it a couple of times, though, and I still do quite some work on the planets in photoshop.
Thanks again

Ohh okay
IΒ΄ll stick with doing my planets in PS for the time being... might try out 3dsm later.
