Hey everyone. I know that I have barely been on DeviantArt this year, but I am slowly starting to change that. It is nice to be back.One thing that I need to have clarified to me obviously contains the Vegans Miles and Laurie. While I usually understand why something or a group of people get an intense amount of hate, I do not get it for these two. They were only in 6 episodes of the season, and from what I have seen, they have no done enough for all of the extensive hate that I have seen.
One reason (and probably the most astounding) that I have seen for the hatred o them is that they are racist....... Wait, WHAT? HOW are they racist? Is it because of Laurie's hair? It is racist for people to try on and wear other type of hair that has generally been used for one culture? That is like saying that not being segregated with our looks, our association with people, etc is being racist.
Some of the others include them being overly annoying. More annoying than the LARPers? Stepbrothers? Daters? Ice Dancers? At least all of the others have something nice to say about them, but these two? That is their biggest crime?
I understand that fodders are usually people that no one gives a fuck about, and that is fine, because many do not care about the Geniuses, Adversity Twins, Rockers, Tennis Rivals, etc, but there is usually not so much emotion for people that no one cares about. I have seen so much hatred for these two, and I just do not get it. Can you all please help explain it to me? I need some clarification. Thanks.

Tumblr disgusts me. Like did you hear a girl had a suicide attempt because she drew Amythest skinny and this garnered SO much backlash from the tumblr fanbase it is unreal. I was disgusted by the way the girl was treated, I mean she was okay, but clearly affected. Also, Laurie was confirmed to be half Jamaican.

No, I have not heard of that. I know some nasty crap goes down on Tumblr, but to drive a girl to a suicide attempt over that bullshit? It is not right, but at least she is okay. I heard about her being confirmed to be mixed, but that also brings up some controversy because many feel like Fresh only did that to get rid of the backlash.

Uh, myself, I don't hate those two. I thought they were okay characters and they had a good 6 episode run.
Maybe they hate them because of them having to eat the feast, even through they're animal lovers.... Fans and haters, think about it, they had no choice. They were close to last place... Plus Laurie's "karma" on episode 6 was too far and we can agree on that.

But anyways, I'm not sure either. These two sort of remind me of Dawn, mixed with a design similar to Harold's sisters or something in the lines of that. I don't know why people think they're racist. 
Besides the fact they are fodder, there isn't much to hate about them.

You dont have to take tumblr fan base seriusly. Lately all they do is makin supossed social BS about a cartoon and if you dont agree, you are a bigot, horrible person, etc

Not really gonna add much to the question of why they're hated other than the reasoning for it (mostly for Laurie) is absolute BS.
What I will say though is that even though they were fodder, I ultimately gave more of a shit about them than most of the teams in the Final 5 and the ones that were supposed to "Matter". But a problem I do have with them is how similar they are to Dawn to the point where they would've been better off having her replace one of them (preferably Laurie).

I never noticed for some reason how similar they are to Dawn (it is something I should have noticed a lot earlier). She definitely could have been one of the Vegans though.

As stated below, the reason the Vegans, mainly Laurie, are hated so much is because of Laurie's racist appearance. She has dreadlocks and a rasta hat and hippies, especially white ones, are known for taking features belonging to ethnic cultures and using them as accessories while disregarding their cultural significance. And since Laurie represents the hippie stereotype then she's guilty of doing this.
Plus, I have a hard time believing that Laurie is biracial since Fresh TV made that statement 'after' the first episode was leaked and people were calling out Fresh for Laurie's racist design. So it feels more like a last minute save to avoid the extra hate. 
Also, ignoring the racial factor, the hate can also come from them being pretty one-dimensional. Aside from them devoting to help mother nature and creating new charities every episode, there really isn't anything interesting about them. They're just ditzy hippies meant to be elimination fodder for the early episodes.
And that's the main reason why everyone hates Laurie. Miles is more of a casualty for being associated with her meaning that the hate spills onto her aswell.

I understand why people hate Laurie, but what's wrong with Miles? She doesn't have anything "racist" in her design so I don't understand why do people hate both of them because of Laurie.
To me, they were the Dawn/Ella of the season. Best Fodders.

I completely understand why you see them as “egh”, and it is understandable for the reasons you listed. I see people say some nice things about the Geniuses, LARPers, Tennis Rivals, etc, and at worse, people don’t care for them, but with Miles and Laurie, I always see such a strong disdain. My biggest problem with them is how incredibly one-note they are, the same problem I had with the Geniuses and the LARPers. It's so obvious that they were just used to fill up space.
Aside from that, I didn't know they were hated so intensely. It's not new for a white person to have cornrows or dreadlocks. It's uncommon, but it's not new. It's also not racist in any way, no more than it is racist for white people to rap (tho that depends if they happen to rap any racist rhetoric, which itself would be incredibly ironic... I'll just stop now before I start to ramble).

It seems like the biggest reason why these two are hated is because of Laurie's design. Many people have said that her design (the Jamaican beanie and dreads) is culture appropriation (ex: a white man wearing a Native American war bonnet as an accessory). So people have seen her design as cultural appropriation because she is white. However, I think that the argument has become invalid because Fresh has confirmed that she's biracial. (All of this is what I've seen on Tumblr though, not other social media.)
So other than that, I don't know why they're hated. They are 100% not my favorites (the Surfers own the key to my heart ♥) but I don't see the problem with them.

People made a HUGE deal about the dreadlocks on Tumblr. Their hate is probably the lowest here compared to other places, but I see them ranked last or second to last so often, and I don't get it.
