Description Decided to try out some modular pieces for a dungeon.
The broken/rough pillar bits don't work as well as I'd like, because it doesn't quite make sense why there's larger rough rocks inside the brick wall unless it's all hewn from the inside of a mountain or something, but they're actually able to be used as rock piles in corners as well - a dedicated mesh would probably be a good idea for having it in-production though, for the sake of simple editing.
More of a technical exercise than anything.

I like the look of assets like this rendered at low res and then scaled up for some reason, maybe because it lets me fake detail.
Teleglitch used it to great effect recently.

All super low poly with some pixel level work done on the texture. Could drop top and bottom and internal faces to optimise, probably at runtime.

Might do more modular stuff like this soon, it's interesting, like trying to make good pieces for a fun puzzle.

I like the clean look to it. The textures mesh well together if you think of the inside stone as rubble piles, but then again you would think that the shape of it wouldn't be concave if this were the case. Anyway, not completely sure what impossibles work like this might bring in the future, but I think we can all hope for a 3D KAG c;

lol, we've got more planned than just KAG related stuff, but I figure I'd better work on my 3D technique either way.

Cheers It's always interesting stepping between 2 and 3 dimensional work, glad you like this one.

I have a pathological fear of doing 3D work, I only ever accept 2d work
You're certainly good at it though, looking forwards to seeing how this develops.

You should consider getting your feet wet with it ;^) it's a nice change one you get over the interface shock, haha. Fiddling with sculptris is a good way to get a no-nonsense intro to high poly workflows, though it's not really anything like lowpoly work, haha.

Yeah, I've dabbled with 3DSMax in the past, it was frightening and confusing
I've also tried Sculptris, but that was a while back now. I should probably try it out again, step out of my comfort zone.. I really dig low-res pixel-art texturing on low poly models, so very lovely.

Blender works, fwiw. Look at some tutorials and do a lot of throwaway art to learn the interface.

Sculptris is fun but again, its for much higher poly work than you'd be doing for most pixel-res stuff

Yeah, also high poly is less great for game assets and stuff. I've never tried out blender but I've heard good things from basically everyone about it, I just have trouble wrapping my head around the extra dimension in everything, heh.

I like it! I'm probably nostalgic but I really do like PS1-era graphics, like from King's Field and Medievil. Is this really just a technical excercise or is it perhaps going to develop further?

Don't have any plans to go further with this in particular, but I'm sure I'll do more 3D stuff down the line
