Description This invention that Lilly had been spending all of her time on was the opposite of anything she had ever done before. She used to update and fix peoples possessions, instead she had been reckless and sloppy, but never the less it made her feel young again.
When Lilly awoke she looked around, shocked to see how much she had cleared up from the rest of the house. Stumbling into the kitchen again, Lilly first put on the kettle, then stood and stared at her pile of creativity.
"Told you I'd be back. I was just going for a nap." She was talking to the pile on the floor, as though it were her child. "OH!" she said in shock glancing at the pots that had been used for wheels, "Whatever was I thinking?"
Lilly got down on her hands and knees and looked at how garish the pots looked, realised these were not practical for moving around, so she had to think of something that would be suitable.
Walking around the house franticly she was shouting "Don't worry! I will find something!"
Without realising she had made her way to the cupboard, she hadn't walked this far since Dale was around, and now that she thought of it, her joints weren't hurting in her legs. Whatever it was she was doing, she was sure that it was helping her.
Opening the cupboard with a smile she saw her vacuum cleaner sat there, innocently. There was a layer of dust covering it and a spider appeared to have made a web from its handle to the roof of the cupboard.
She grabbed the handle and wrestled it out of the tiny door situated just outside the dining room, which had also not been touched in months.
Lilly pushed the hover back and forth as though she was cleaning, but she wasn't as the vacuum wasn't even on.
Her motions got faster as she felt how smoothly the vacuum glided along the floor, and then a large grin filled her face as she started to cackle, she was making a celebration of it. Occasionally shouting a 'woo-hoot' or 'hooray!' as she manoeuvred the vacuum from its sanctuary and into the kitchen which she had now called her work shop.
She placed the vacuum in front of the mess of plastic and wires and stood aside
"Well? What do you think?" she looked back at the box as though waiting a reply, even though not a sound was made she carried on, "That's what I thought. Much better than pots"
Back down on her hands and knees she unscrewed all four pots that had been attached to the box and looked towards the vacuum. If the vacuum were a living being it would feel terrified, the gaze that Lilly gave it looked like something that were from a horror movie, the Frankenstein of  appliances.
She heaved the vacuum onto her kitchen table and fetched her tool kit; her first course of action was to remove the handle and bag, so that way she would have the part she needed to make her newest creation mobile. She carelessly yanked off the handle and took the dust bag with her, which had not been emptied so it sent a cloud of dust, old food and hair with it. Lilly had to stand back while the storm settled, while she waited the watched the dust swirl in different patterns and make a blanket over everything it landed on, if it wasn't so disgusting, Lilly would have said it looked pretty.
She started again on the vacuum cleaner, inspecting wires and buttons to see what she needed and what she didn't. She removed the strip of fur which was used to collect extra debris while vacuuming but kept everything else.
Lilly placed the wheel body of the cleaner on the floor and turned around to pick up the plastic box and place it on top of the body. It was a perfect fit; she nudged it slightly with her foot, appreciating how easy it was to move now, the less effort it took to move, and the less power it would use up after all. Using her soldering iron she melted the plastic onto the wheel component, and then had a realisation, she would need a way of moving it around before she made it move alone.
This also came as another shock to Lilly, the fact she was thinking of this being an object that would move by its own accord, it was absurd.
Still she picked up the handle she had broken off from the vacuum and reattached it, without the dust bag, so now she could push her new creation along like a trolley.
Lilly stood back again and looked, she was pleased with what she had done but she was now out of inspiration, her wrists started to hurt and the pain shot to her knuckles. She thought deep down it had perhaps always been there, but she only noticed it when she had nothing else to do. She had to keep working. Was it absurd that she was going to make a device that moved by its own accord? Was it even out of the question to try and make it talk?
Of course it wasn't. Not to Lilly. She needed someone now to depend on, as her husband was deceased and her neighbours had been scared off, and the only company she had now was the 5 minute chat with her personal shopper on the doorstep.
Back on her knees again in front of her new friend she reached into the top of the box, she had a fiddle with a couple of wires, connecting them to some which were in the wheel compartment and taking out some she realised now were useless, but they had made sense at the time.
She walked into the living room and found the remote which had belonged to the television; she had kept the infra-red receiver inside the body for this exact purpose.
Standing back from her creation she pointed the remote at it and pressed play, nothing happened. She then pressed fast forward, nothing happened. Lowering her arm she sighed but then had a realisation, lifting the remote up again close to her face she hit the on button. A small green light began to blink at her from the inside of the box. Smiling she pressed play, unfortunately nothing happened. She attempted to press all of the buttons but she could not make it move on its own.
She didn't understand, she had wired up the vacuum cleaner body according to the remote.
She was very disappointed but did have a back-up plan. Going back again into the cupboard which had once been the vacuum cleaners retreat, she looked to the top shelf and managed to reach a box down. Blowing the dust off the surface she revealed the word 'robot' along with a famous toy logo. She had been brought this by Dale a few years ago, it was very amateur stuff but it had what she needed.
Inside the box she found 3 sets of instructions, one for building your own robot dog which answered to the sound of your voice, another for building a cat which would move around and think of its own accord and the final one is what she was interested in; instructions to build a remote controlled car.
All of the parts for all the kits were in the box which she carried through to the kitchen. Toys had come far in the years where she had been growing up, robots had sprung up out of nowhere, soon enough they would have been walking the streets if the economy hadn't gone down and given up on new technology.
Lilly wondered how come she thought that she would be the one to break this barrier.
She first of all attached the receiver to the inside of the body, then twisted the large areal so it was coming out of the back. She very crudely rushed through making the remote as she was so eager just to see this work.
Standing back again, feeling more confident this time, she braced herself but before she attempted to operate it, she stopped and turned around with her arms in a welcoming posture.
"Welcome, welcome everyone!" She bellowed into the empty house "Thank you for turning up to this historical event. I, Lilly Marshall, will now operate the first new robot built in the last 3 decades. I will break a barrier today not only in society, but in myself!"
Lilly had been sporting a proud smile throughout her speech and turned to face the robot. She dramatically raised her index finger above the remote, and pushed down on one of the arrow buttons, she was left in disappointment. Her smile faded and her arms fell, she let out a big sigh as she slammed the control down on the table, but before she turned to leave the room she noticed a red blinking light coming from inside the robot, then with a small sense of hope she picked up the television remote and pushed the on switch again, the red blinking light turned green.
She attempted to use the toy car controller one more time, this time she held it with only one hand and was going to operate it with her thumb, she was not prepared to be let down again.
This time however the wheels shifted forward, slowly. They crept along the floor and Lilly watched the robot go for about 2 ft before letting go of the remote.
Her smile was wide again and her arms opened, she turned again to her imaginary audience and bellowed louder than before
"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you!" then she took a bow.
She turned to her robot and knelt on the floor next to him, she was still smiling. She was proud of herself, and was now automatically thinking of ways in which she could fix it up even more. She now had a sense of achievement; she had a project that would keep her busy for months to come.
The smile Lilly bore today was one she had never done before; it was a mother's smile. The kind women only use once they have gone through 9 months of waiting, hours of excruciating pain and finally a result. Lilly was now a mother in her 80's to a robot. She had spent all her life fixing other peoples friends and it had never seemed silly to her. Lilly Marshall had never been a people person, which is why this is how it was going to be now.

No i definitely haven't! I'm so glad that someones given it a comment! I stopped uploading it to DA because it's one of my creative writing pieces that I'm hoping to get published one day, so for copyright purposes I didn't want the whole story online just in case I get done for plagiarism or something one day :3 but if you like I could keep it going?

I would love to continue reading it! I wanna know if she actually builds a robot! It's a great piece of creative writing and if it ever got published, I would definitely buy it :3
I don't think there would be any plagiarism problems if you told everyone, "Hey, I'm publishing this" and took it off of DA after that. I'm not sure though since I'm not the most familiar with copyright stuff.
