Manticore has red eyes. Baby manticores have green, gold, and purple coloured eyes.
Actually, no, that still makes some sense even if you ignore magic - red eyes basically mean eyes without any pigment, the red is the blood in the muscle that controls the eye. So, whatever pigment the mother has genes for can dominate completely (or not completely - purple eyes in humans have that same cause as red ones - albinism).
I'm guessing the mother, wherever she is, has blue eyes, while the father manticore has recessive genes for yellow eyes. I know eye colours don't really mix like that, but they're magical creatures.
Come to think of it, how the hell do manticores mate? How do scorpions mate? *looked it up* Okay, scorpions mate kind of like fish, by which I mean the egg meets the sperm outside of the body, and no rumpy-pumpy actually takes place. So do manticores do it like that? They have too many mammalian traits for that, I think, plus there wouldn't be any fatherly conduct like shown here if they just left the eggs alone and did other stuff.
Okay, I've got three hypotheses:
1 - Female manticores do not have tails. Being too small to reach in front of the head and attack prey with, they're used in mating displays or something like that.
2 - Manticores mate in something resembling the missionary position. Since they're quadrupeds, it's probably incredibly awkward and maybe adorable, assuming it's anatomically possible at all. Some variation on "cowgirl" might work, but would be really weird.
3 - There are no female manticores. Manticores mate with females of other species. Fluttershy is the mother.

You know, I've see a lot of Fluttershy fanart over 2 years since the show aired and this is one of the most genuine I've see so far. Yep, it is simple. Yep, it plays similar ideas and aspects that were played before. yet no one ever had a thought to continue this theme with Manticore.
