Description
Monolithic updatePencil on Illustration Board
Full drawing 30” x 40” this image 7” x 7”
This is the Second element in this drawing, the sky and bulb being the first.
This is a drawing of my step-fathers eye. An eye that’s seventy-eight years old, an eye akin to hammered gold. An eye that’s experienced prisoner of war camps and the death of many comrades. It’s been witness to beating cancer once and now in the dusk of his years to lung cancer. This symbol speaks of strength and vulnerability; it alludes to the end of one journey and the beginning of another.
(On December 5, 2005 my dear step-dad died in my arms, I will miss him so very much, Gods Speed to you Dad, and all my love always). Armin Mersmann
Thanks for looking

You have beautiful work, Armin. Although, the texture of the board comes through on the left side of the eyebrow--that must be frustrating for you.. Nevertheless, this is an absolutely breathtaking drawing, WIP as it be. Let me express my condolences for the your step-father's dark days, and I wish him good luck on his future journeys.

In most areas I totally got rid of this texture but in some places it was perfect and actually added to what it gave me. This type of paper would be hard to take if I was drawing a young woman. Oh to draw a young woman again…….. /\\\

As I know you've already been told many times, you artistic skill is unsurpassed. Truly. I'm just curious, is this the only art form you've explored? Or do you do other kinds besides straight realistic pencil drawings?

On no not at all, I spent three years doing nothing but abstract paintings in oil. Also on my gallery pages there are other things, I do admit that this type of realism is my natural artistic language and it’s something I can really build on. As a viewer what I enjoy the most is abstraction

Your work is stunning... I just looked at your gallery and you're as talented in other mediums as you are with a pencil. Thank you for blessing us with your expressions... you add so much to this community!
PS and I know what you mean... abstract art, be it done photographically or through traditional means, is my favorite

I absolutely thought it was a photograph... his eye is all slimy... and wow. Just, so, fantastic.

Brilliant work but may I ask you a question? Why does it say:
PICTURE:
Make: NIKON CORPORATION
Model: NIKON D50
Shutter Speed: 10/200 second
F Number: F/5.6
Focal Length: 55 mm
Date Picture Taken: Aug 5, 2005, 12:04:44 PM
If it is a drawing then why is there a camera involved?

carmelpixie In reply to Alocalstalker [2005-08-05 21:23:09 +0000 UTC]
um.... because some people take pictures of their drawings because they can't scan them. I used to have to do that and still do sometimes. Look at the rest of his gallery, they're all amazing pencil drawings.

Your level of detail and technique never ceases to astound me. I hamb awstruck at how you make pencil renders look like photographs. What's even more amazing to me, though, is the shear thought and meaning behind what you do. your art actually means something, has a message, something that's been sorely lacking among many newer artists. Myself included.

1nimra In reply to SteelJaw [2005-08-06 15:39:02 +0000 UTC]
Thank you the realism or the detail has because just a tool for me to be able to express myself and it is secondary to the concept. Actually most of the drawers in art history that I admire drew very lose and expressively, I always hoped that I could draw tight in my natural artistic language and yet have the feelings that my heroes expressed, and it’s still a struggle to not let technique override content.

it's photorealism
may I know your secret?
How can you create such incredible masterpeices that looks like photograph?!
is it the materials because the ones I used can never capture such realness.
Amazing work
Definately a fav.

nimra... it's hard to write an original comment for your pieces... "amazing", "stunning", "breath taking"... all those words and other million words couldn't describe your Art.
This eye is gonna be one of my favourite pieces here on DA, not just for the description which for sure emphasize its blatant beauty, but because my heart stopped from beating for a few seconds, my eyes stayed open wide, my mouth slowly opened... then I breathed air again.
If I didn't know how great you are, I'd think this is a cool photograph. And somehow it is. It's a photo of a wonderful drawing.
