Description
Since I've had my camera, I've been trying to get into a photographer's mindset. It's hard for me since I originally just wanted to photograph my origami models, which I control. In order to get good photographs of objects that change or otherwise don't sit still for you, you have to have a different mindset than others. Most people are happy to simply enjoy the moment and allow their mind's eye to remember the scene and setting. A photographer wants to capture and share it for others to experience, which can be a chore. An enjoyable chore, but bothersome at times. One big thing is to have your camera ready for things that catch your fancy. "The best camera to use is the one you have in hand." It's hard to share a photo if you don't even have a camera! With the advent of cameras on cell phones, just about everyone has this covered. I'm trying to take it a step further and carry my T3i with me, just in case. Most pictures don't turn out well, as I'm still learning it's limitations which there are plenty of. I don't know, 1 out of 100 sounds about right for passable amateur pictures that I've gotten.I've had a strange fascination with clouds lately. Perhaps throughout life I've spent too much time with my head down, watching where I step and being careful, missing out on what is around me. Again, a photographer's mindset is different. You need to see what's around you. So I've been watching the ever changing sky. People probably think I'm nuts but last Friday I went to the grocery after work. The sun was setting, which allow the clouds to change colors as well as shape, so I decided to pull my camera out before going inside. I took a few shots. After one shot I noticed a flock of birds at the edge of the viewfinder. Pretty cool but they were still in a relatively dark area, so I snapped another and this is the result. I would have liked the silhouetted clouds as is but the lucky of having a flock of birds fly past makes it even better, in my eyes. It's the first real photo I feel I've taken that I'm glad to carry my camera around for.

Great photo o-o!
It really does make me want to look at the sky more often and catch such moments.
Keep up the fun camerawork :>

Thanks, I shall! I need to update the ol' journal with some fun stories. As a preview, I've been planning this backpacking adventure in my head since the end of last year. While I know gear isn't everything I've just bought a boatload, or perhaps packload would be better, so either I'm on my way to reconnect with nature or I'm going to feel real silly. I say this now because one reason I'm wanting to venture out is so I can nab some awesome landscapes. Knowing my luck, October will be rainy and miserable and I won't have the opportunity to get anything good. But that is life.
Speaking of life, how is it going on your end? I feel bad for not spending more time socializing on dA since I do really enjoy the community, you know? Maybe this is a minor rant on my part, but do you feel like things have changed since Groups were introduced? Before, it felt like if I commented on a random piece of artwork, the person would comment back and vise versa. Maybe everyone is just busier. With Groups it feels harder to move outside your style. Does that make sense? I think it's odd that I've gotten quite a few watchers and have no idea who they are or why they wanted to watch me since they haven't commented or favorited anything. In short, I'm glad to have built relationships with people like you before hand. Makes things more personable.

Whoa, I really don't hop on here enough. Backpacking adventure sounds like fun though! Yeah, nab those landscapes! Take the greatest pictures ever o/
Life on my end well, has been jobless. searching for jobs and playing the waiting game be really difficult. I wish getting into work was easier. It's been over three months since I haven't found another job yet. Quite sad. I really want to get away from the family~
Hmm.. groups on deviantArt.. I'm not a part of any so I can't comment on it heh. But yeah that makes sense with not being able to move outside thy style and such. The people that watch you I guess are looking for so and so, but I still think you should push out whatever you feel like doing. That's how art is. Well, when you're not doing it for popularity or money I guess.
Good hearing from you! Hopefully the next time I respond it won't be a month later.

Thanks. And I know about the Tetons; I did a week long backpacking trip over there in '97. That was back in the days of film and before I cared about getting a good shot. There is one I like that has my dad, my brother, and myself with the Tetons in the background. Mind you we were on the other side of the mountain than where Jackson Hole is though. We hiked up one valley, around the mountain, then down another (perhaps aptly named Death Valley. It hailed on us the last day.). At this point, I'm happy just to get outside. Living downtown with the internet doesn't help things.
