Description
I'm slowly redoing all my old textures. I recently purchased the same climate/fractal program that I had used earlier(shareware). This has allowed me to use it in more detail that last time and I am trying out some newer techiniques, as well as getting more accurate height map data.Again, all science is thrown out the window and lets not pay attention to physics or anything like that.... so lets terraform EVERYTHING over 250 miles in diameter.
Updated December 10, 2010. Finally fixed the terrible Martian lakes.
Updated February 9th, 2016 with much updated textures and height maps on many moons.
The list from L to R.

I would love to visit Venus. I hope one day we can terraform so we can move our population elsewhere. It's getting too crowded in Earth and I think if we moved at least 3 billion people here to these planets, things will get better

Is there any reason for terraforming planets beyond Mars?
The temperature on this planetoids will be minus 100 degree

These planetoids may have artificial fusion or Deep Well Industrial Zone artificial suns.

So... how many people are living in this solar system now? Looks like at LEAST a trillion, if we keep Earth's population density.

I personally love the idea of this. Though, I don't think we really need to terraform most of Earth, unless we as a spiecies REALLY fuck up.

Mimas, the smallest one pictured is about the size of Spain in total surface area.

I like this mischief of art and science. It feeds immagination.
I don't think it's totally phisical impossible to terraform the other planet in the solar system. It just requires A LOT more of technology, besides A FAR superior knowledge of the REAL phisic. There was a time when people belived the whole universe was formed by four elements: fire, air, water and soil. I think by the time future people will be able to terraform the other planet, our actual phisic will look like as primitive as the four element's phisic.

ah an expert
sir, I am in need of your expertise. In a story I am writing a group of native martians are given one of the jovian satellites to colonize as reperations for the terraforming of mars
the idea is that the native ecosystem was very dependent upon the poles
which of the jovian satellites do you think most suited to being terraformed (aresiaforming, martiaforming?) to suit the martian environment

Hold on! Hold on! Before you go all apeshit on me, I'm sorry for not realizing that you weren't trying to follow the laws of physics; I didn't read the description in full before commenting. It is a neat picture either way! But here, look at it as a prediction rather than a critique. Truce?

My reputation precedes me hmm??? LOL! I just read your little rant and you were taking yourself way too seriously. The only serious part of this project is what quality of the art, not the lack of science behind it.
This was a a project that I've had brewing for the past 17 years. 2 major (and silly) influences on it were Exosquad the cartoon, and Red Dwarf. Specifically the 1st book, Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers. In the cartoon, Venus and Mars were terraformed and there were outposts on all the planets and moons. In the Red Dwarf book, it opens up with Dave Lister being stuck on the moon Mimas. It never said explicitly if it was terraformed, just that the one major city just overgrew everything. So I just went sorta hog wild collected pictures from National Geographics of all the moons and planets.. getting their vital information down and learned about spreadsheets and databases for the first time. This was no easy feat in the days before the Internet. Also.. if you know our Solar System well.. you'd know that most of the moons you see.. are just balls of ice. They could never be terraformed as if they were real planets, even if you forget how tiny they are. Well.. why should I let a little thing like FACTS get in the way of a cool idea. So I just imagined they were all rocky to begin with.. just filled in all the craters and basins are lakes and oceans. I took Mimas as the lower end of the spectrum, any smaller and the moons tend to be lumpy and not good spheres, and just worked my way up. It's taken many years to gather the right height and texture maps and a stroke of luck when I found a program that will do vegetation maps for planets too!
Also... Joss Wedon managed to terraform several solar systems in his Firefly 'Verse with no explanation as to how it was done. Hundreds of moons and planets at various sizes and distances to their primaries.. suddenly all had breathable air at the right temperature for human life. So go bother him if you must. He make a whole franchise out of it, I just made 1 picture.

Yeah, I guess I do take myself a little too seriously sometimes....
But, you're right: why let FACTS get in the way of such a cool idea? Sometimes they could just hinder ones imagination! On the other hand, however, basing a concept on facts, even a minute amount of facts, can make a story concept seem more real, and therefore a little cooler. But here's what I typically do when I'm writing a story or coming up with a concept: if I like the idea enough, I'll either do everything in my power to figure out how it could be done or I'll create new facts to support it. When facts fail to accomplish, resort to the excuse of "magic" or "alien technology."
Yes, I remember the terraformed-world-thing about Firefly; how the hell did they do that?! The solar system in "Cowboy Bebop" was the exact same way!
But, whatever...It's creative, it's cool, and it's good-looking!

I forgot about Bebop. Ganymede was an ocean world and Io was a massive desert.
