Description Elena Briar Fairskye was one of the newest students at the Ebonvale Mages' Guild. Being in her early twenties, she could finally commence the journey towards becoming a fully-fledged mage- an envied position by all the commoners. In her childhood, she would always watch as wizards and sorceresses, adorned in lavish garments and pointed, wide-brimmed hats would pass through her village, towards the inner Kingdom.

To enter the guild, Elena had to use nearly all of the coin she had saved to purchase the appropriate material to begin her studies- a novice's wand, spellscroll, and mages' attire.

The simple wand was fashioned from oak, a lightweight and reliable tool to aid in casting magic- very cheap as well. The spellscroll was attuned to the element of air- it contained one of the most basic incantations to summon a sharp gust of wind from the tip of a wand- the scroll was cheap and widely available, and came with a small leather case to hold. The mages' attire was what used up most of her coin. The corset was of deerskin- a strong leather, tightly fitting and providing ample protection to the torso. It came with a small leather harness to hold personal belongings. The blouse and skirt were made from linen, a comfortable choice and an improvement over scratchy wool or hemp. The stockings were woven from silk- a luxury garment from the Eastern lands that was all the rage amongst the noblewomen. Her shoes were of calfskin and ash, and were only slightly too big- she would have had to pay considerably more to get a pair tailored to her size. The soft leather was a necessary layer of comfort to the hard wooden sole and heel. Her hat was made from wool- Elena had already spent most of her silver on everything else and had to go for the cheapest available option.

Food and accomodations were covered by the guild for students that took on guildwork- mainly tasks on the field such as live combat against wild creatures and assorted pests.

After spending a week at the guild, she was given her first guildtask- farmers at a nearby village were reporting a surge in lesser creatures coming from a nearby forest and were paying good silver for mercenaries to help cull them. This was no surprise, as most of the Kingdom's fighting men have been warring against the Orc tribes for the past decade in the Southern Badlands, so local pests and monsters have had unhindered growth close to villages and castles, having reclaimed most of the forests.

Naturally, the guild picked up the contract- a relatively simple and safe task for novices. In addition, the guild was paying a silver piece for each creature slain- after commission. Elena and many other novices- even apprentices- jumped at the opportunity. She could finally get some experience in the field, while pocketing a few extra silver.
