Description
After a suggestion to 'frame' the diamond texture by a fellow modeler on Foundation 3D - I found it easier just to remodel and redesign the main armor from the ground up. Therefore here is my new armor for my Babylon 5 Warlock Destroyer.I will be redesigning the weapons as well - these match fairly closely what was on the example model of the one used in the show - but they really have little detail. Therefore I will be redesigning them to be a compromise between what the show had and creating better looking, more realistic main guns.
View in large size to see the detail.
Cinema 4D
*EDIT*:
This model is available for FREE in my webstore:

All I ask is that you please send me links of the renders you make with this ship, I would love to see them!

This is absolutely amazing and a great opportunity. I'm definitely going to get this, not to make renders, but as a an opportunity to learn new and better ways to model. Thanks man!

Awesome, thanks. Just let me know if you have any issues with the download. I'm still working on automating the download of free items that do not receive a "confirmation" of payment from a payment gateway. As of now I still have to physically "complete" each free transaction so that the download will be available in your store account. Also, be sure to show me any renders, I would love to see what you come up with

I'm trying to model a spaceship of my own and this could help with inspiration and understanding how you modeled the details ^^
Thanks!

I finally got something I felt worth posting on dA and to get a bit of a progress line I also uploaded older version. The naming method you use also felt nice.
I'm mostly using the model as a reference, but for the barrels I decided to replicate them to get a better understanding of how you did it. Screenshots
It'll probably be a while until I can show some decent renders though

Will do ^^
Also, the screenshots don't do justice to how much details there is in there O.O
Not just things like the turrets, but all the vents and pipes and indentations. Awesome!
Could you name things you take inspiration from or do you create the details from your imagination?

Thanks! Inspiration? Shows, movies, etc, the series itself - and a LOT of research that led me to Tim Earls, the creator of many of the B-5 ships, he had uploaded examples of his detailed drawings of the Warlock on Foundation 3D (a modeling forum where I am a member) and I based a lot of the details on those drawings. The actual ship in the series didn't really have a lot of detail, I've seen the model they used, it really wasn't meant to have a lot of physical detail, most was placed with textures as the ship was only ever seen from quite a distance, no close-up shots, and only for very brief periods at a time.

The one bad thing about modeling is you can't sit down for 10 minutes at a time and get anything really accomplished. It really is an hour or more at a time hobby.

Exactly! At the same time I am devoting attention to creating new models for my webstore, doing tutorials for Digital Tutors, and so on... My roommates tell me I work too much lol. Pretty much 7 days a week, every week

Tell him to use his imagination every day, all day and see how easy that is. lol
Creating things from scratch is even more time consuming. If your basing off something at least some of the work is done for you.

I always loved the Warlock.... and I can't help but think they ripped off the design somewhat for Star Wars Ep. III (a couple of the Separist ships).

I didn't really see anything in Ep III that could be confused with the Warlock, I have the DVD and have watched it MANY times.

I dunno, but some aspects of the frigate and the destroyer (forgot who owns them or what the names are now...) make me think of the Warlock. And I own the Blu-ray, and have watched Ep. III many times as well.

Well in some ways a long relatively pointed & militaristic ship will look like any other to some degree, I guess it's why looking at a Goodyear tire reminds me of some of the design characteristics of a BF Goodrich tire lol
