Love it, cant wait to see what you will do with this when ready , (also cant see WHAT else you need to do on it tbh, it looks sweet as is) , materials looking spot on , mesh (of course) is brilliantly detailed and the ship lights are good. SO sad SGU got canceled tho. Keep the vibe alive with your art I say !

Thanks bro - actually this is really old, and I do plan on completely re-doing the entire model with lessons learned from the past couple of years. Yeah, sucks about SGU - and did you hear? Syfy just cancelled Battlestar: Blood & Chrome. I knew people working on that show! Dammit!

I know it sucks donkey testicles, tbh SyFy have been pissing me off for years now, Caprica, SGU , Eureka , Bionic Woman, Blood and Chrome (tho i hear the TV movie/backdoor pilot will still be shown at some point) all canceled far too early. Why so they can show more reality TV (donkey piss) and wrestling (donkey piss on steroids), r3tards , cant stand the US TV system tbh. SyFy currently only have 2 sci-fi original series in their entire schedule (Alphas and Warehouse 13 ) GRRR . As you can tell I may have some strong feelings on this issue, too many great shows canceled before their time . Oh well , time for me to dust off my BSG models and get to work ...

US TV sucks right now lol, tbh I have actually been enjoying loads of great UK programming from Netflix, series I had never even heard of and watching old missed series that I had never had a chance to see. The only US channel I watch at all now is AMC with it's great original programming - Walking Dead and The Killing. Syfy sucks.

wow. how do you possibly get all those details for the ship? Can't possibly get it from just watching the show.

Haha okay. I'm a pretty big fan too. I Just wonder how everyone gets so much detail on the Daedalus.

There are several different forums around dedicated to modeling these types of things - and the members post screenshots and detailed drawings sometimes from the creators themselves. Like the Babylon 5 ship I am doing now, I had access to the technical schematics thanks to the original designer being a member

Yep - there are several that I like... listed in order of preference:
[link] Foundation 3D - GREAT community! Lots of help from highly experienced modelers as well as tips and hints from various people actually in the industry professionally - 5 thumbs up there! LOL!
[link] - Lightspeed-Art - a forum created and run by like-minded modelers. A good forum.
[link] - ItsArt CG Forums. Slightly more dedicated to CG of all kinds than some of the other forums, professional yet 'friendlier' than some of the others...
[link] - CGTalk. A professional forum dedicated to more than just modeling, but pretty much anything to do with VFX - matte painting, modeling, sculpting, interviews with the professionals, etc. Great forum, just not as much 'response' or feedback there to us mere mortals lol
[link] - Scifi-meshes.com Another slightly professional modeling forum. Great people and HUGE amount of talent there. Though slightly more stoic than most of the forums I go to - it's another like CGTalk - mainly the 'big names' get hits and help and responses - not regular guys like you and me

You know, I usually try to refrain from commenting on WIPs, especially on a series of WIPs, but man... This ship is very beautiful!
The amount of detail it has is very nicely displayed thanks to the lighting. As someone said on the previous WIP piece, light isn't likely this bright in deep space, but due to the placement of the background image at least I get the feeling that this could very well be real.
Very nice job! Looking forward to seeing it finished ^^

Thank you very much - yeah I generally make most my space scenes a bit brighter than they would realistically be only because too dark and people complain, lol just strike it up to can't please everybody Also in film and television they make the scenes brighter just so the viewer can see and is not bored by viewing a black screen

cheaterguy In reply to 2753Productions [2010-01-29 16:47:37 +0000 UTC]
Well... MOST people might want to make their space scenes brighter, except for the makers of 2001 which seem to have forgotten this :/
But I'm hardly complaining! The lighting fits in nicely according to myself, even if it isn't "realistically correct".
Then again, who cares about reality? It's just in the way xD

LOL nicely said I may be a nerd for it lol, but I actually liked the lighting in 2001 BECAUSE it was realistic

Clever, right? xD
Bah... I have to say I didn't like 2001 a whole lot, but they do get points for realism, that is correct. Unfortunately, they lose all those points since the Monolith's damn shrieking sound still rings in my ears! xD

How can you forget that sound! It's possibly the most annoying thing I've ever heard. Aside from that, you're right. The ships were nicely made and lit... Rather clever in the design as well.

cheaterguy In reply to 2753Productions [2010-03-12 18:36:27 +0000 UTC]
Well... A lot has happened since the movie came out. So, it's a bit dwarfed in comparison to the movies of today. It was an achievement for its time, but one of the best movies ever? Not really... (and neither is the Dark Knight, no matter what IMDB says -.-) xD

2753Productions In reply to cheaterguy [2010-03-12 19:21:11 +0000 UTC]
I agree with you there, especially where the Dark Knight is concerned... way too many dull moments, at times the plot "jumped" but I will say that it WAS the best acting job EVER of Heath Ledger's career.

cheaterguy In reply to 2753Productions [2010-03-15 07:25:58 +0000 UTC]
Truth be told, I haven't exactly sat down and analyzed the Dark Knight to make up my own opinion of it. I was to busy ogling the effects.
I agree, though. Heath Ledger did an absolutely splendid acting job in that film!
