Thanks I am looking at the full size 2200 px render on an HD monitor and I see no edge, so I don't know what you are seeing lol, the plane that the material was applied to extended waaaaaaaay past the camera boundaries

yeah your monitor seems to be too dark theres a long edge at the bottom, because the plane with the hubble texture ends in the picture at the bottom

I see it ONLY when I crank the levels up in photoshop only to the point of almost overdriving it - in fact it pixelates real bad. The bottom edge was below the camera but I think I may have reset to 70mm after positioning it lol... but I think your monitor is way too light if you can see that normally - mine is set perfectly by this [link]

Just wondering, is the Sun Tzu intended to be capable of atmospheric flight or landing? I only ask because I just noticed the topside runway.

2753Productions In reply to Doomsday-Device [2010-01-27 12:51:41 +0000 UTC]
Yes it can take off and land very easily. As far as a topside runway no - I think you are looking on top of the shell? What that structure is has been the subject of a lot of debate - it is a ribbed piece of structural metal that I have been calling the "zipper"

If that's not a runway, why does it have what appears to be a flight control tower on the top? It looks like something you'd find on an aircraft carrier.

Obviously you have never seen there series. NO it is not a runway - NO that is not a flight control tower - simply a superstructure housing various compartments to include the CIC and the Bridge.

This is an incredibly detailed model, however the texture is a bit lacking in my opinion. I think it is too plain, and could use a bit more pizazz. Something like in the hangers, which by the way look phenomenal.
Also playing with the lighting a bit to make it stand out from other sci-fi pieces which have an incredibly similar lighting pattern could help a lot! Maybe having it be in a nebula, or near a start that is causing a certain kind of light color to reflect off the surface? Either way, if this was 1-100 on the awesome scale it would definitely be in the mid 90s.

Hmmm actually my materials have quite a bit more "pizazz" as you say then the show originals do - which always looked a bit too "clean & un-used" to me [link] for instance that one. The materials are a metal plating of a military ship so I will not go wild with them as far as colors etc. The materials stand as they are. As far as lighting goes I thank you for the input, but again I chose the background as is - they did not do a lot of "nebula" shots in the show though maybe some time I will do it, but NOT for a WIP (Work in Progress).

Understandable. However even military ships have some kind of a color pattern or scheme going on:

Is a great example. Notice how the center metal plates are darker. It makes it stand out better from an aesthetic perspective.
But then again you don't have to do it, I was just giving you an opinion.

Thanks for the opinion, I really do appreciate it, but this is a ship that is supposed to be one of the Stargate Universe fleet, from the Stargate group of series - NOT a Star Trek ship, so if I were to change the overall appearance away from that then it would be dead wrong. My texture is a bit more "colorful" than the Stargate series - but only to give the material "depth" - nothing else, period.

I didn't know it was from the Stargate Universe fleet, and if I was to criticize them for it, then their ship designs are bland.
However, since you are copying that, then nevermind.

No problem - but also, creativity is entirely up to the creator in any way - if someone wanted to design a pink starship destroyer with purple polka-dots, that is their choice
Along those lines here is a quote I have particularly liked over the years...
No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.

I just reviewed each and every message on this particular picture - I have yet to see any reference to SGU, though I do see one person say he 'misses SG-1' which also had plenty of action involving Daedalus class ships. It doesn't matter if someone thinks SGU or SGA or SG-1, I don't think it's necessary nor polite to go around correcting everyone. Too much of that and people might think 'troll'.
