ya think? all I've seen (aproaches to the basilisk design) were more into a wyvern/reptile type of a creature. I wanted to go more into the bird type.

Well i think it's a fresh look actually! For instance the harry potter Basilisk is just stupid. Since the old stories states that its body begins as a rooster and ends in a snake!
Here's an old Basilisk engraving: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…
If your not happy with it i recommend taking inspiration from the Naked neck rooster, pretty odd looking upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia…

In fact legendary basilisk (from polish legends) is kind of bird (cock) creature. Lizard version came I-have-no-idea-where-from, but I guess it was some of the western Europe.

According to Wikipedia it comes for ancient rome, and the rooster thing comes from the medieval times. The lizard i think is a movie thing, because i've never heard of the Basilisk to look like lizard/serpent. Not that i have read much about it either.
