I'm curious about the banding though. Does this only show up in the (I assume reduced size) jpeg, or is it part of the design?

Thanks Keith. Sorry for the late reply (i've been extremely busy!). The banding is part of the design (i.e. it was part of the original fractal that came directly from Fractal Explorer - the proper term is rendered I believe).
