The most intriguing thing about this piece is the way simmetry is broken and maintained at the same time.
Waves come from two different sides of the image, "drops" are differently outdistanced to one another and have different shapes, the most complicated of which are little fractals by their own. Each one of the undulating lines is broken by a peak.
What really makes this fractal, though, is the excellent use of the rule of the thirds, both vertically and horizontally. And of course the use of colours. I really appreciate that the shades of blue follow the delicate texture so well, as well as the gradual changing from blue to yellow. Although I wish the yellow would be a bit more warm on the outlines.
Overall a beautiful fractal with a great juxtaposition of positive and negative space. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/t/t… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Thanks Katia. This is truly fun for me and appreciated.
The previous critique also had a point about the colours as well. It's a personal thing, but I find the default colours in FE a little too bold for my liking, so I generally turn the saturation way down. Perhaps this moved it below that 'warmth' you are looking for in the yellows.
I love that you picked up on the negative space in this, which is what I think pulls everything together.
Thanks again for the fun!

You're most welcome, Mark!
Yes, FE colours are very bold, and even if sometimes they are great for some psychedelic pieces, they usually make it difficult to bring out the right shades.
Anyway that lack of warmth in the yellows is almost unimportant; it's mostly a matter of tastes, I'd say!
Yes, I really appreciate a good use of negative space, since that's a thing that sometimes gives me some problems in my fractals.

The first word that comes to mind as I look at this piece is the word "undulating." Wavy moving water with abstract water drops. That is what I see. Good movement!
What really stands out for me here is the unsymmetrical symmetry. You are probably thinking that I'm crazy for saying that, but it's true. Mark has symmetrical shapes, but has offset things just enough that the whole piece does NOT follow a symmetrical stance in of itself. To further the impact, he has followed the rule of thirds for interest.
The colors are well-thought out, with yellow being a good choice to contrast with the blue. The only improvement I could recommend is maybe add some orange or red to brighten things up a little.

Thanks Jenn. You've really pulled this apart, and really picked up on why the piece is titled as it is!
One thing I dislike about FE is that the default colours are generally too saturated. I always find myself moving the saturation way down to find what I'm looking for. Before I did that on this piece, I believe there was some purple/red right beside the dark blue, but of course, the by desaturating(???) it is no longer there.
Thanks for the detailed critique. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

You're very welcome!
I definitely agree with you about colors in FE. They do tend to be over-the-top. You really have to play with the controls to get something you like sometimes.
