Lovely
I love Tezuka's work. I was fortunate to visit the Tezuka's Museum in Takarazuka in your country. That was awesome

I understand.
It is a famous title in Japan.
However, there are not many fans in Japan.
That's why I'm really glad that my friends are there!

It's even harder to find fans of Astro Boy here in America. Many anime fans in America know of him and respect him historically, but there aren't many actual fans of him. Although he's slowly growing a following.

Dragonrider1227 In reply to 2d-complex [2017-10-30 08:34:52 +0000 UTC]
yeah. I think it's partly because even though there have been three full animes about Astro, none of them have had a strong mainstream run in America since the 60s series. The 60s seires was popular but not for very long. I think mainly because it was in black and white and Americans were more interested in color TV by then. The 80s series barely aired in America at all and the 2003 series ran on a couple of major networks but with little advertising and was pulled after airing for a very short time.
I think its rather cute, "childish" and "old fasioned" style has trouble appealing to Americans as well since a lot of animes that are popular in America don't usually have such a style. The only "cute" anime characters I can think of with massive appeal in America are Pokemon and Hello Kitty. And I think Hello Kitty's merchandise is more popular in America than the actual anime.

Thanks. I've been following Astro Boy pretty hard since the early 2000s. That's when his manga was first officially released in English and that's how I got into the character. I already knew he existed thanks to my dad who used to watch it as a kid but I was never a fan until I started reading the manga. The 2003 series started shortly afterwards which made me an even bigger fan XD

It has english subtitles but it's the only place I know that streams the Japanese version.
I like the 80s series as well but not as much.

and the animation is really good. It's over ten years old and the animation is STILL really good. Arugably better than some of the animes out now.

yeah. i've heard they've been cutting back on their animes a lot. The big ambitions animes like 2003 Astro Boy haven't been making the money sadly.

I believe that's what happening. I know in the end, 2003 Astro Boy failed to be as profitable as they had hoped mainly due to poor overseas marketing I think

I think that few people watch Astro Boy even in Japan.
You know a lot about anime.
I think that people like you are great!
Thank you so much for letting me know.

Yeah, sadly I think a lot of modern anime fans are turned off by the older style. Even when you give it better animation. They want their animes to look prettier and more dramatic like Attack on Titan or Swordart Online. Though like I said, it has been growing a following.
Thanks ^^ I've been into anime since the mid 90s and into Astro Boy since the early 2000s and I was following it when the 2003 series first premiered in America. I even saw the first 6 episodes in Japanese before the English version aired so I already knew the differences when I saw it.
You're welcome

I was very excited.
Are these successful in America?
I see...mid 90s
Ah! Japanese! That's great.

Yeah, those animes are really popular in America. You see lots of cosplays for them at American conventions.
And yes. My very first anime was Unico but I didn't actually get into anime until Sailor Moon and Dragonball.

the American anime fandom is fun. Even though most of the animes popular here now I don't follow The last popular anime I've been able to get into is One Punch Man. That's pretty popular here.
