Description VII turned out to be a really good game, much to my surprise. Here's hoping IF/Compile Heart keep up this standard in their future games.

Oh, and C-Sha is absolutely bae. Like whoamygod. She just overtook my love for Iris Heart. Design-wise, character-wise, holy shit. 100% waifu material. Did I mention she's bae?

Apart from the random encounters. And that habit of getting a new technique to play with only for the game to make it unavailable shortly if not immediately afterwards. And that nigh pointless Route Building system that makes no sense whatsoever. And why do RPGs have obtuse True Ending requirements that don't actually factor into how the True Ending progresses? They need to get out of that habit.

Random Encounters on the world map and route building in the game is new to the franchise. Previous titles only ever used a cursor on one big map and that's how your party moved around. My only guess is that this game wanted to justify you actually moving around within the worlds, making for a more immersive experience. For having played the other games, I quite like this world map system, even though it takes forever to get to where I want.

Obtuse True Endings seem more like tradition, if anything. As early as Capcom's Street Fighter games played on the Arcade, if you managed to fulfil certain requirements or conditions, you get a different final boss or some such. It's a game's means of getting more replay value, by promising new/different content if the player succeeds in meeting said requirements/conditions. In the case of VII, I'm actually relieved the requirements for the True Ending is extensively simpler and easier to attain. As compared to, say, Neptunia MK2/RB2, anyway. Sure, there are better cases and examples of games factoring in different endings as the player progresses (Persona 4:Golden comes to mind), but knowing Idea Factory/Compile Heart, their ongoing style of games, and their player base, I don't see them breaking this mold any time soon.

Problem is that immersive experience only even remotely works in the Zero Dimension, where you are a stranger and are wandering a new and unknown land. Very much lost in the Hyper Dimension, where the world building is lackluster at best.
