Church of S. Maria dell'Orazione e Morte (prayer and death) in via Giulia, Rome.

This marble plate stands at the main entrance and represents an unburied body of a tillerman with the angel of death showing the winged hourglass representing the timelife ended (Memento Mori).

The hole in the marble is made to put money inside the church, the inscription says:

"ELEMOSI[NA] [PER] I POVERI MORTI CHE SI PIGLIANO IN CAMPAGNA. MDCXCIV"

(Alms for the poor dead ones we find in countryside. 1694)

The bishops of this church historically are devoted to bury the bodies found in countryside near Rome (don't ask me what they are supposed to do nowadays...).
