My first infra-red photo with a converted Nikon D80 with Hoya R72 Filter.My journal entry about this picture:
Try something newI don't know how but last weekend i stumbled across some infrared photos here on deviant art and i thought that it could be nice to try it out by myself.
The easiest way to took infrared pictures is to use a filter for your DSLR but the problem with this is that you always have to use a tripod, because the camera manufacturers put a filter on the camera chip to block the infrared light (it has something to do with the image quality). And that will increase the shutter speed if you use a infra-red filter. The second problem is that you will be unable to use your viewfinder. The human eye can't see infra-red light, and the filter blocks every other kind of light.
That 's why i decided to replace the blocking filter of a camera with an infrared filter. I wanted to keep my Nikon D5300 for normal photography so i checked a few websites and found out that the Nikon D80 is suitable for this kind of conversion. (A friend of mine owns this camera, so i knew what i get for my money.)
