Meric grew up in a small town, where he was raised by a single mother, as his father had left him as a child. Meric strived to be a good kid, and for the general intellect of his peers, he was quite the student, getting C’s and low B’s while his classmates received D’s and F’s. When Meric was a teenager, he found himself dating around a lot, though never really finding that special someone until he turned 20, where he met his to-be wife. He and this newfound love got married, but as luck would have it, she was struck down by a crippling disease. Infuriated at death for taking his only love, Meric was hurled into rage where he smoked, drank, and in general lived an unhealthy lifestyle, not to mention, became incredibly vulgar. Eventually, he turned to sludge, a race of individuals that are looked down upon because of their terrifying look to the untrained eye. Meric had lost all hope when he made this transition, but fate works in beautiful ways. When he was 26, two years after his marriage, an academy sent him a letter when he felt all was lost. A druid academy. The letter clearly stated he wouldn’t discriminated upon, and, thinking Maybe I could get her back, Meric left for the academy and studied the soul and its connection to life. Among other things, Meric learned how to control his soul and to summon fire, one of nature’s most dangerous wraths. He got experimental with his newfound abilities, and put a part of his soul into the corpse of a little white cat. The cat revived, but with a catch: It now had the intellect of an old woman, and could speak and understand human. Meric named her Alice, and she soon became his familiar. Meric knew he had a chance of bringing his wife back. He left for the cemetery of which his wife had been buried in, and right before he could attempt to repeat the process, Death appeared before him. Death very clearly explained to Meric that he stole his favorite cat, and wanted her back. However, Meric explained to him that his soul is within the cat now, and as such, is no longer Death’s. So, the two reach a compromise. Rather, Death told Meric what to do, and Meric listened.
I’ll let you keep the cat, but if you bring anything else out of my grasp, I’ll be sure to set up a special place in purgatory for you. You can’t just screw around with the balance of life.
Meric gladly “obliged”(because you try telling the embodiment of death itself “No”.), but continued to attempt to find a way to attempt to bring back his wife without taking her from death. The druid is 32 now, and still searching for a solution to this day.
