Description
Edit: the reference image has been found! Many thanks to for finding it: [link]-----------------------------------------------
Drawn in 3 hours over 2 days (Wednesday and Thursday after school and after IPT extra class and piano lesson) in my A4 sketchbook with a pack of 12 Monte Marte pencils I bought for $5 last year but never remembered to use.
This is probably my first proper and serious pencil drawing in the last 3 years after I moved on from sketch class to oil painting class. Sketch never really fascinated me that much because... well, the stuff we drew weren't all that exciting and when I practise at home, all I can find to draw are things like apples and chairs.
But then I thought, I have already spend ... 6 years? of my life to learn it already, if I don't practise those 6 years will go to waste so... I have to keep drawing.
And since I'm drawing in my own time now, I can draw other things, from things I find on the internet and such, so I guess, I should find more fun in it?
And looking at this picture now, considering how I haven't a living animal like this, features like this, since I was in Year 2. So I still have a lot to learn in this area. And thinking of how I looked back at sketched I did 4 years ago and laughed at my own patheticness back then, I suppose that when I reach 18 and look back at this picture, I'll think "I can't believe I sucked this much when I was 14!" But then, if I don't draw, I won't improve, will I?
And seriously, for something drawn in 3 hours, I really should've done better. Lack of practice really has gotten to me in the past 3 years.
I know there's School Certificate and IPT and things alike, but I have been worrying over accademics for as long as I remember, and while over studying and over stressing over getting meaninglessly high accademic rankings that matter and don't matter at the same time, I have wasted time I could've spent on drawing. At the end of every year, I would regret. Regret not drawing more, regret for wasting my time, regret for wanting to be better but never doing what it needed to improve.
So, even though I will try my best at school, even though I will still aim for Band 6 for every subject for the sake of everyone, even though I will study and do what is needed of me, I still have to find time to draw.
And also, after becoming obsessed with manga, I have forgotten how much I love any other type of art. I really enjoyed all 3 hours of drawing this picture, surprisingly, and I think I will be doing more pencil work in the future.
Sorry for the pointless rant, I had all these... emotions in my head that I just have to get out.
----------
Edit: Ok, so I got carried away with my emo rant that I forgot to put a link to the photo I used for reference.
I originally found the photo on google image search, but when I remembered and went to look for it again, I can't find it anymore. So if anyone comes across the original photo, please do let me know. It's a coloured version of this sketch, the 2 are very alike. Thank you!

I'm 17 going on 18 right now in 2012, so yeah, in 2009 I would have been 14.
Gosh, my maths is so bad, it took me really long to try calculate it. =w=

My, my, you can draw/paint/do anything, can't you? I envy your versatility as an artist. Very incredible.
Anyway, I really love the lines and the texture. Very beautiful.

Thank you.
It's easier for me to do realism off a reference than for me to draw manga or things like that from my imagination. I think it's because of the art lessons that I've been to in which the teacher teaches us still life and those sort of foundation techniques. >w<
So I really admire how you can draw manga really well, since I find it more difficult to draw manga.

You're welcome.
Ha ha, it's the other way around for me. I don't like drawing things from references (unless I can totally change it around). Ack, still life... I don't really like doing that.
Aw, thank you! I admire your realism.
