And yes, I hate Tia's original mane, so I used her old one.

This is adorable. Twilight's ear looks a bit long though. I like the shading in Celestia's hair, very cute.

No, it's Tia's mane, and color was right. It's just a little too dark.

A lot of people couldn't figure it out, especially since it flows out from Twilight Sparkle's face without any interruption. It even uses the same lines of shading, giving the impression that it's part of her face.

Well Celestia's hair isn't supposed to be that color if this is in the era where she knows Twilight, but that's not overly important as it still looks nice. The main issue I see is that you should have kept Twilight's ear shape and size from the original sketch since now the ear just looks bizarre when flopped down like that. Pony ears are like cat ears in that they can be moved around quite a bit with muscle control but they never get loose or floppy. Aside from that the coloring and everything else it looks nice over all.
