1. Because I need to express how much I like or dislike someone else's artwork.
2. Art that I find aesthetically pleasing, or artwork that appears to look weird and needs to be pointed out.
3. I give people too many favorites and not enough comments.
4. To get the attention of the artist, to compliment on their work, or to criticize it. I don't have a third reason.
5. I'm not sure how the artist will handle my criticism. Will they seek what I mean or will they freak out and block me?
6. A constructive comment would be pointing out the things the artist did right and pointing out the things that needs to be improved and then adding some suggestions or references.
7. They're the same to me.
8. Not very often. I should do it more often.
9. Yes. Sorta.

11. No. Not really.
12. I hate short comments.

It is easier to give people favourites, over comments. I imagine many other people do the same.
As for the artist handling criticism, it depends on how you phrase your critique, the words you use, your tone, etc.
Do you hate short comments because they seem pointless?

1. When did you start commenting on artwork, and why?
I started commenting a looooong time ago. Like, before I ever joined the internet sites. And I started commenting mostly because I wanted to help people get better at what they love to do.
2. What kind of art do you like to comment on?
Anything! However, I prefer illustrations the most, as I spent a year and a half, studying illustration and I know how to critique a little better and give advice, rather than say a fine arts painting.
3. Nowadays, do you often or comment, and why?
I normally favorite more often than comment and I won't lie. The reason I do is that I'm a lazy jerk who doesn't take much time to comment these days. I hope to fix that, th

1. When did you start commenting on artwork, and why? When I joined dA for the first time, in 2007, I started getting friendly comments from an unknown deviant. This deviant commented on every piece that I posted, and in that time I could barely import my drawings to the computer, not to mention any computer graphics. I knew I wasn't very good in comparison to other artists here on deviantArt and I often felt discouraged, but that deviant's comments made me believe in myself and produce more work. Ten years passed and that deviant has died, his deviantArt profile became a memorial and everyone whose works he was commenting, posted an "I miss you". That deviant was like a friendly shadow and I decided to follow his step

Comment Meme! (One Year Later)1. I started commenting on artwork (on ) the day I signed up, because I feel that it is important for real people to tell an artist how their pieces impacted their life and/or for the viewer to be able to ask a question directly to the artist in relation to the piece.
2. I like to comment on the submissions that give a prompt for commenting. My favorite genres are Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Traditional Art, although Digital Art is compelling as well.
3. More recently, I prefer putting art in a folder over commenting because I can collect the things I admire and go through many more, as opposed to taking more time to comment on every single one.
4. The motivation for a comment of mine would be a combination of beauty, aesthetic, hues, values, flora/fauna, or originality. Polished pieces will also draw more of a comment from me than a rushed picasso sketch .
5. For me, the difficulty in commenting lies in giving a quality comment that does not only say "This is aw

1. When did you start commenting on artwork, and why?
Basically when I first started DA, I would only comment on friends' artworks, but they were pretty much "nice-biased". I stopped for a while and then only commented on pieces that gave a strong impression to me and now I do my best to comment constructively or "socially" when I can.
2. What kind of art do you like to comment on?
I like to comment on friends' artworks, especially if they give some kind of impact to me, or if I want to encourage them with some feature that I especially liked. I prefer to comment on novices' works, because I think popular artists probably get comments of the same meaning or idea too many times for mine to make any significance.
3. Nowadays, do you often or comment, and why?
I rarely fave because I'm trying to keep my folders pretty organized and filled with the works that I truly like. This is

I started commenting on artwork since I came on DA, 9 months ago.

3. Nowadays, do you often or comment, and why?
I often favorite it than comment something, but if I have something to say, then I'll say it.
4. What motivates you to comment? Can you name three things, minimum?
I motivate myself by thinking of the artist's future when I comment. Will it bring them down, or lift their spirits? I motivate myself to give critiques and/or a constructive comment by thinking of the art as a person, and try not to hurt it's feelings. Be nice to other people and then they'll respect you back.
5. What is difficult about commenting? What do you usually do about it?
The difficulty of commenting is to try not to go to far with constructiveness(?), you'll end

Project Comment Meme1. When did you start commenting on artwork, and why?

1. When did you start commenting on artwork, and why?
I've been on dA for 6 years now, but I spent a great deal of that time lurking. I've started to try and provide helpful feedback only recently. I feel like I'm finally at the point where I can give helpful advice to beginners at least.
2. What kind of art do you like to comment on?
For constructive comments, if someone puts their art in ProjectComment or stars a forum thread asking what they can do to improve, I'll try to comment if I feel I can help. I'll only leave constructive critique if people explicitly invite it though.
If I'm really taken by another piece of art I'll leave a "wow so cool I really like X". It's hard to pin down my tastes exactly but generally if there's a cool character design or well-drawn wings somewhere in it I'll probably like it.
In general I try to comment on stuff that hasn't already gotten a lot of attention. I don't see
