Description
I could have done this as a survey type of thing on here but I prefer using visual's instead of words to show it although I can bet this image alone doesn't make any sense. In the world of model railroading you have many types of ways to model, passenger(Santa Fe F7), freight(D&RG SD40T-2), modern(Southern Pacific ES44AC), older(Southern 2-6-0), foreign(Southern in Britain tarrier 0-6-0 tank), local(GO Transit GP40-2W(for me)), mainline(Western Pacific GP9), industrial(logging set up SW1200), switching(Milwaukee Road S12), diesel era(Missouri Pacific FA), steam era(NS&STL 2-10-0), electric(Burlington Northern E-60CF), custom/your own road(Pacific Western Erie Built), prototypical(PRR RS1), odd/unusual(CN Sweep), the normal every day stuff(MKT SD40-2). or like my collection a bit of everything. I know this is a long description and the image shows what each loco is since I just went left to right, I guess the point of this is I'm asking more what your interests are in the hobby. I enjoy working industrial and yards more than I like running on a main line even though the majority of my collection is main line equipment. I have switched out a yard with a cabforward, GS-4, and even my CN 6060. Using a bigger engine just makes it that much more of a challenge depending on how the layout is set up since some yards will only be made to allow smaller engines to run in it. I also mainly collect locomotives that have been retired from active use, the most modern I normally buy is tunnel motors or SD40-2's. I got the ES44AC because a friend persuaded me into it since it is in black widow paint and with the idea that he will get it from me later since I don't like modern equipment. I like how for this image each locomotive representing a way to model is from a different railroad, I know there are other ways to model but I just wanted to focus on the main ones that I have seen.Related content
