Description
Sometimes I'm thinking why I'm drawing her so often, and from time to time the question pop-out from mouth of others. The reasons are clear- She's special, unlike any other character seen in other toons. And the idea of using capital letters from abilities (adjectives?) and at the end to get the word special is NOT my idea, I've only borrowed it from the Fallout 3 game, where it was used for character selection and customization, because I considered it cute.and Why pencils again?(I know it looks terrible.) I'm still shattered by the accident, that completely burned the disc with all stuff on it,and in case of happening it again, at least I've got my drawing. Poor excuse,so -out with the true...I'm fed up sitting behind display while the sun's shining, so I pack um my clipboard, pencils and (unlike PC) I can draw anywhere I want. HOWGH

I like your colored pencil art the best, actually. This is excellent and I love how you used her characteristics to spell out SPECIAL. With a lot of great pictures and ideas and coloring job, this is an excellent piece of art as all of yours are!

I'm sorta exalted by your comment, but IMAO it ain't as good as you say.(nor good as I initially expected
- I always prefer to "level the sight" rather than rest on some polite pedestal
) Thanks for neat and lovely comment though.
As I mentioned, the idea wasn't mine, all I did was to make up the pics and bit of coloring. No drama, sketching and rubbing with eraser ,as usual..

Don't worry about the idea not being yours because if you really think about it every "new" idea is simply inspired by pre-existing ideas. As it has been said, "There's nothing new under the sun."
But I'm not putting you on a pedestool or being overly polite or what ever you were getting at in your comment because I was saying how I really felt about the picture.
I think of compliments like this:
If someone compliments my shoes or hair or clothes or drawings, it is best to take them at their word and trust they are sincere because the person giving the compliment has the option of not saying anything at all if they don't like what they're commenting on. You know what I mean? If I didn't think it was good, I could have very easily not said anything and no one would have ever known if I liked it or hated it.
I love your drawings (and I especially love the colored pencil versions. They're the best.

I will be posting some more stuff in the relatively near future. A woman wants me to email something of a portfolio to her so she can keep me in mind for an illustration job and another woman wants me to do another illustration job (without even seeing a portfolio, just a giant painting of Mr. Krabs at my brother's place of work) So I have some potential jobs coming up (though I'm not sure when. Plus, I drew a couple of things recentl that I haven't posted, plus, I need to fix up some of what I already have to make it passable for a portfolio...
So you'll see some new art from me sooner or later.

Good luck is right. What lead to these potential jobs (I'm not getting too excited because I've had work offers fall through before) was a series of near-misses that if I missed any one of the series of unlikely events then I never would have talked to the lady about it. It's an interesting story. I'll tell you about it some time.

Well, on the wee hours of the morning before, I watched the Futurama movie, "Into the Wild Green Yonder." I was so excited by the greatness of that movie that when presented with an upcoming 2 hours of sleep I might have gotten, my mind was too active to sleep. So I didn't sleep. I had determined, because of that, that I was going to come right home after class and sleep while the baby was still asleep.
Well, I got to class just a little bit late. A woman was giving her final presentation for a semester-long paper so I decided to wait outside the room until she was finished so as not to interrupt her or distract from her presentation. When she had finished, I slinked in and sat in the very back of the class (because our instructor was sitting in the seat directly behind the one I usually sit in, so I wanted to draw little attention to myself, so to the back I went.) Incidently, I sat next to the woman who had been giving her presentation.
At the end of class the teacher stated that that woman had an announcement to make. She informed the students that the department of writing was to be having people give their brief stories about what inspired their love of reading and writing. This sounded interesting to me.
As I apologized to the woman for missing her presentation, I asked her when these interviews were to take place. SHe told me they would be at 1:00p.m. and then she told me how she did hope I'd come. I felt sort of obligated at that point.
Incidently, we got out of class nearly an hour early so I had an even longer wait until 1:00 than I would have had otherwise (as it was 10:00-something in the morning. I had not showered, I was wearing no make-up, my hair was dirty, and I looked like I hadn't slept (which I hadn't) and I had to decide if I was going to not disappoint the lady by showing up to this writing interview that I really wanted to do, or drive home and go to sleep.
To pass the time I was going to have lunch with my father who works in Little Rock, remarkably close to the university. It turned out that he was out of town on business and would not be able to have lunch with me. I didn't want to eat by myself, so I decided to go home, but then on a whim, I called my brother (who works at the same place as my father.) He said he was busy but when I mentioned I had wanted to go to lunch with him he quickly said that he would love to. So it was set. I would stay in Little Rock.
When I went to the interview (at 1:30p.m.) I discovered it was a video interview. I looked terrible, but the lady said I looked fine and started the camera. I started talking, off the top of my head, and when I came to the part about my insights into writing, I mentioned that this insight is the same for "cinema, comics, like I draw comics, and writing stories..." Well, at the end of the interview the woman said I spoke well and agreed with my insights and said that she was starting a children's book/cartoon/website that was educational called Skippy the Squirrel. She said she had an artist she was working with, but she's hoping this really gets off the ground and would need more artists and even before seeing my portfolio asked for my contact information regarding the possibility of a job in the future.
So here are the potential places where the oportunity could have been missed:
*I could have made it to class on time and not sat near the woman who made the announcement, then I would never have agreed to go do the interview.
*I could have decided to go home and go to sleep.
*I could have chosen not to call my brother after my lunch plans with my father didn't pan out, which would have ended up with me going home.
*I could have avoided going to the interview because I looked like death.
*I could have neglected to mention anything about comics or drawings whcih would not have opened the door for conversation regarding the cartoon project.
If any one of those events had not taken place, the potential for an illustration job would not exist. Of course, nothing is set in stone, but at this stage, it's all about networking, you know.
The other job from before that was kind of dead for a year and then reemerged may not have taken place except my brother commissioned me to do a giant painting of Mr. Krabs on a coworkers cart for work as a practical joke and some people saw it, including the woman writing a book, and seeing only that painting of Mr. Krabs, decided that she wanted me to illustrate the children's book for her. So that's pretty cool if it does, in fact, pan out.

Wow- The circumstances were against the odds, but your proper decisions turned it all in all in your favor. Not luck, nor the fate, as it's said-" It is all about proper decision in specific situation". Unfortunately, there ain't "Big book of tips and suggestions" related to dealing of such events or how to "sense" these moments.
IMAO The "sixth sense" and bit of common-sense wisdom is of the "essence" here Although you were tired, the brain worked 110% and at the end of the day you've fallen assleep with knowledge, that circumstances do not determine the result, mostly stimulate them
I'm too much talkin' little less speakin' anyway, Good luck and creative spirit

It is neat how strings of events happen. We think when things like this happen how fortunate, but we never know what oportunities we have already missed out on because of one decision or another. So who knows, these kinds of things could be waiting around nearly every corner!

Nooo, I like the pencil drawing! It gives it a more comfortable feel. Digital work is clean and pretty, but it has a different atmosphere, and I like the sketchy pencil lines
And yes, Sandy is VERY special That is a really cool idea...I've rarely seen it done, so this is extra cool IMO. C=

I like that you draw Sandu in more than just her suit and her bikini.
My favorite ones are Endurant, agile and intelligent.
