Well take a look at how badass some of the Pokemon are that Ash catches. Β We all know that Pikachu is rather strong for his species, but the other Pokemon that Ash, his friends, and his rivals catch have some VERY impressive qualities when you take a look at some of them. Β Iris's Escadrille is badass, all of Ash's Unova starters are really strong despite only one getting one evolution, and on top of that, Power isn't the only thing that determines who wins. Β It's a BIG world we are talking about when it comes to the Pokemon anime, and I think it's safe to say that there are a LOT of very impressive Pokemon that set them apart from others of their kind apart from just Ash's Pikachu. Β Heck, even newborns like Iris's Axew and Ash's Scraggy become freaking powerhouses after some training together.

I guess he takes it serious when he says he wants to "have a 'fresh' start". So he kills his Pikachu and gets a new one! There seems to be no evidence against this besides they have a "bond"

Yeah, Pikachu losing to Panpour without scoring a single hit was kind of pathetic.

You guys SERIOUSLY thought Pikachu would win against Excadrill? Come on! For 1) Excadrill has trained longer and harder than Pikachu has, so he's an big time veteran in the battlefield. And 2) He's a Ground/STEEL type. Two of Pikachu's attacks wouldn't do anything and his other two wouldn't do much damage. It would of been a miracle if Pikachu won that fight. I called that before even the week the episode came.

True, but Pikachu's level is likely 90

Considering that Excadrill has (chronologically via backstory) been fighting longer than Pikachu has, Excadrill was the better fighter.
Remember, Iris got Excadrill as a Drilbur when she was like 5 or 6 years old and since Ash is "supposedly" ten and Iris is about at equal or close of age to him, that means Iris had caught, trained, and evolved her Drilbur YEARS before Ash even meet Pikachu.
And don't forget that 100 battle tournament Iris and Drilbur entered back then. Drilbur took out 99 of the opponents ALONE and evolved during the 99th, before losing to the 100th, gym leader and dragon master, Drayden and his Haxorus.
After all that, Excadrill must of gotten more powerful and considering the 5 year gap before Iris met Ash, Excadrill was probably still training and battling, getting even stronger along the way and is probably now at the same level as or higher leveled than Pikachu.
Pikachu had NO chance, in heaven, hell, or on earth of beating Excadrill in.
Excadrill IS the stronger veteran.

Just because you do 100-streak win doesn't mean you're super strong. Don't you know most wins in these shows are just damn flukes? He wouldn't have been passed BROCK if the sprinklers didn't go off!

Drilbur did a 99 win streak against DRAGON TYPES. In the anime, dragon types are hard to take down if your pokemon isn't strong enough. Even after Drilbur evolved into Excadrill, he still lost to a dragon type. The 100th challenger, Drayden and his Haxorus.
However, the most important thing about Excadrill is that he's had 5 YEARS OF TRAINING AND BATTLING after his lost in the tournament. All of those 5 years BEFORE Ash and Pikachu even met each other.
Considering that Ash is still ten in Black and White / Best Wishes, his whole adventures must of taken at least within a month's time for each one, weeks for some, and probably a year with all of them put together. Meaning, Pikachu's only had a year's worth of battles, training, and experience under his belt.
And no, how old the series is DOES NOT equal Ash's age.

I find dragon types the easiest. If you look back at the original series, it says in the episode "the final badge" Ash says 'I can't believe it's been a whole YEAR since I been to Viridian city.' That PROVES he aged (they don't exactly show it). ALSO in the mini-movie for 'Pokemon 3000', at the party, Ash says "it's the anniversary of the day we met" That says they have a 2-year gap not mentioned. You do realize it take an ACTUAL fan to get this?

1) The short was in Pokemon "2000", released in 1999 in Japan and dub in, uh, 2000 in the US. I don't know what universe or time period YOU live in but we haven't reached the year 3000 yet in this one.
And 2) ok, so they've had at least 2 whole years worth of training and battle experience and Ash SHOULD be twelve by now.
However, like I said, Excadrill has 5 years of training and experience over Pikachu and Excadrill has probably battled and beaten other electric types just as strong as Pikachu in his past.

You dipstick, it's "Pokemon the Movie 3: Spell of the Unown" or "Pokemon movie 3" for short, not 3000. Stop getting the movies crossed.
If you ARE an actual fan, you'd never mess up something like that.
Also, like I said before, THE MOVIES ARE NOT CANON!!

Hm, to be fair...In the anime, there's nothing statistical like levels.
Think about it - many pro athletes hit a lot of days that they don't play as well. A lot.
And with Snivy, Pikachu was startled that his trump card power was taken away (maybe Zekrom was looking into Pikachu's memories when it took his electric power). As for the Servine rematch...well, I guess Trip is talented like that.
Besides, when there's all sorts of strategies open in real-time fighting, type advantage isn't everything. Speed can play for evasion, too.

42Dannybob In reply to UMSAuthorLava [2011-08-16 13:24:12 +0000 UTC]
yeah, but you'd think Pikachu would be able to beat most pokemon (it did beat a flock of spearow).
Ash barely wins with type advantage anyway, in fact Tranquill is the only one he has won with that advantage, you could put it down to strategy, but that still doesn't give pikachu or Ash any justice
