Description
It was like a jolt of lightning running through me,So suddenly, yet also so expected.
I could feel the beginnings of it long ago,
Like just a touch of wildfire and no more.
I didn't know then what I was seeing,
But now I completely understand.
The stars had been slowly aligning,
Just one more each and every day.
At first, the clues weren't lining up.
One spark here, another there,
And suddenly one day it hit me.
The waves all came crashing in at once,
A loud clap against the rock wall.
It startled me awake, like a shake to my shoulder.
I ran at first, seeing the storm approaching.
I didn't want to find myself in the eye.
But it turned south just as it came to me,
Dragging its gale force winds back out to sea.
That's when I learned that there are no coincidences.
The storm ran aground on another beach,
Threatening to tear the trees away.
I couldn't stand to watch the horror.
Soon I dove into the ocean and began swimming.
I took a deep breath and headed into the hurricane.
The beach was in shambles when I reached it,
But I managed to salvage most of the trees.
Rope from a shipwreck along the sandy shore,
Just what I needed to put them back together again.
It would take time to fix, probably months.
But this was my Carranam.
No cyclone was going to make my Carranam fall.
Not when the mountains crumble,
When the earth shakes beneath our feet,
Or even when the volcanoes erupt.
This is my promise.
