Description
On a table sat a gameOld and fading.
At a chair I sat
Another facing me.
In its seat was a man
A red face and horns on his head.
His spiked tail swished back and forth
And I knew this would not be easy.
He moved his piece
A grand knight.
I countered with my tower
Tall and strong.
But his bishop was right behind it
Following its move.
I ignored his trickery
Taking a leap of faith.
I threw my queen into battle
Opening up a hidden weakness.
I prayed and hoped he would miss it
But I knew his only goal was checkmate.
When he shoved his own tower forward
I knew it was now or never.
I threw in my own bishop
And now he could see my king.
His knight moved forward once again
And I was trapped.
It was checkmate
And I knew my death was near.
One move from his tower
Could confirm that my breathing had truly stopped.
But when he aimed for my king
He fought back.
My opponent fell out of his chair
And landed on the ground.
I hear him screaming in pain
And I knew I had won.
But he would be back
And we would play again.
So I reset the game
And waited for tomorrow.
