Description *ENJOY THE SAUCE*

---

"Orz crew, encased in robotic, armored exoskeleton, can exit the ship from the aft portholes and enter an enemy ship by burning a hole in its hull. These Orz Marines then start roaming the enemy ship’s corridors, killing any enemy crew member they encounter. Especially useful in large groups, the Marines can blast a ship entirely by themselves. Any Marine aboard an enemy ship when it explodes will jet back out into space and set a return course for the Nemesis."

(excerpt on the Orz race from The Ultronomicon)

It's under Conceptual Art because I'm mostly redesigning the Orz Space Marine (which never really had a design to begin with...) ^.~

You know, I was kind of wondering...

Considering what happened to the landing party at the Androsynth homeworld (Specifically Bukowski)

I couldn't help but wonder... What if the crew had went looking for another intact computer... but instead of reading it, just took it with them... Then program a machine to broadcast the information that makes Them smell you to the Kohr-Ah.

See how they like dealing with a cognitohazard.

Seems like a pretty unethical way to play hero.
Absolutely no guarantee They will just leave all the other campers alone once the Kohr-Ah are dealt with.

Love the pic by the way, love the use of colours in it! The cold of space, the robotic suit of the marine, the happy little Orz *finger*, very nice contrasts, make it look like quite the terrifying thing to see boarding you!

As for ethics...

Hey what's life without a little risk eh?

And why not try to feed some genocidal maniacs who wiped out hundreds of species to an interdimensional entity?

Now judging by Bukowski, his finding out about Orz didn't doom the entire human race, so it'd be interesting to see what happens to the Marauder group if it works. Find out just how the Orz does it thing.

And then hope I guess that constitutes not knowing to much about them. So might have to unethically, whilst I'm being unethical, use someone other then myself to do it... Welll, you can trade a Mycon Eggcase for a Druuge Mauler... Or acquire some Umgah Drones, since they're not very nice and grateful... Eeeelected! Not like I got any 'League Ethics Council' to deal with. And with Umgah you can probably convince them it's a joke RIGHT up the Umgah's alley!

Sure pretty terrible, but no doubt highly informative!

I guess doing a dangerous *dance* involving the Orz is certainly not risk free. I guess in the very worst case scenario when you end up finding out to much and they come for you with their psychic sense of *smell*, though my plan would be NOT to try and resist the Orz. Both the Androsynth and Bukowski resisted. Orz DOES claim it wants to help. It also refers to the Taalo as *campers* in the same way they do to you when they're friendly with you. Perhaps if you don't resist them they won't hurt you in the process.

Still it might be best to know a little about the Orz even so, see if they can either be pacified (because if they really aren't doing what they're doing out of MALICE, it might just be about finding a way to communicate with them more properly.) or if not, if they can be send back *below*. After all, Orz DOES claim that soon it'll be REALLY here. And I don't see the Arilou doing much about it at this point.

Of course if the Orz DO *find* you, and come for you, they might also eat your soul, judging by that *special sauce* stuff... Buuut on the other hand the implication in SC2 is that it reincarnates otherwise and I never liked the idea of having to redo life without all my memories and experiences and knowledge. And I'm an a-supernaturalist anyway. So I guess if I did get my soul eaten it'd just be the oblivion I'd expect! Death'd just be somewhat more unpleasant... But death is not pleasant anyway.

Just that what you described about weaponizing the *smell* sounds eerily close to what Arcturus Mengsk does in the first Starcraft game- weaponizing psi emissions to lure the Zerg to massacre his political enemies- and to hell with the collateral damage.

For an offshoot race of space hippies, the Pkunk somehow got it right in the reincarnation department...

TheSkunkCat In reply to 47ness [2015-12-09 14:44:02 +0000 UTC]

True, what sort of universe would we live in if every genocidal maniacal species with genetic insanity was devoured by interdimensional demons?

I guess either a nice universe or a very ORZY universe.

As for the Pkunk though, I'm pretty sure that as flaky as they go about it, they legitimately have considerable psychic powers. (Although not ones they necessarily fully control or understand themselves.)

Mmm... but back to the Orz, what I'd really like on them is the TAALO's perspective. I don't trust the Arilou AL ALL, much as it's obvious the Orz are clearly not HARMLESS.

The Orz however notably refer to the Taalo with terms they refer to you as when they're friendly. Which suggests that whatever their relation to the Taalo, it's not a negative one. As the Orz don't consider them *sick*, *sad animals* or *silly cows*. But always say they are *campers*

I think if you could get into *pretty space* and talk to the Taalo (or get them out of whatever *pretty space* is), they could probably tell you if the Orz entity is irredeemably dangerous (and possibly malevolent about it (Although I really doubt it's actually MALEVOLENT (It seems instead to be trying to escape a place that hurts it in some way and seems to be finding some sorts of 'friends' an showing them new things, and prefering this to 'dancing' (Although in doing whatever it's doing it may inadvertently harm truespace even so)

I also think if Orz can be pacified, the Taalo would know how. and if Orz has to be send back where it came from the Taalo'd at least have some idea on that too. And I suspect they'd either way tell you a few things the Arilou are holding back on for dodgy purposes.

-

Also come to think of it... Orz-wise... I know Ford and Reiche (or at least one of them) are Jack Vance fans. (Me too)

In one Jack Vance novel the wizard Shimrod uses magical items to go into another dimension called Irely. And he needs some of the magical items acclimatize himself to the different senses (such as 'toice and gliry') of that dimension (Which in fact takes a little adjusting.)

Maybe the Taalo have a device that can adjust you to Orz-space so you can fully perceive, understand and make yourself understood by Orz if you use it. (In which case the real deal with Orz either may not be so bad, or at least you'd understand how it's bad if it's bad.)

It's largely assumed the Orz ...dealt with the Androsynth, because the latter used their technology to see something they shouldn't have.

Otherwise it's one of the great looming mysteries of Star Control.
