I just see them as siblings, I think Ai loves so much Ren but not romantically, she cares for him tenderly for being the son of the person she loved but Ai knows Ren is not Zero so she protects him as something precious to her, Zero and obviously her mother. [Thanks for the question (*v*)/ ]
