Description Brace yourselves, a rant is coming

So, I have the privilege of being a really old fart, so old, that I got to watch the TMNT cartoon from 1987 and the movies, play the games and all that, never read the comics, though.

Anyway, I do understand that times change, and nothing lasts forever, so, in 2003, when they made a NEW cartoon of TMNT, I got psyched as all hell, started watching it, and I really loved it, I read that it was based more on the original comic book, which was cool (as I mentioned earlier, I had never read it), April didn't look as hot, as strange as that sounds, I guess the yellow jumpsuit really add some sexiness points, huh? But She was still boinkable

But then, the series started going out of their way, Shredder was an alien in a robot, Krang was never seen (I know there was a cameo, though), neither did Rocksteady and Bebop (I know there was a cameo of the latter too), the Technodrome was never seen, Krang was never seen, the turtles went to space, then to the future, Krang was never seen, the turtles then went to the internet, there was a Cyber Shredder, Krang was never seen, there was a Demon Shredder, and Krang was NEVER seen!

It kinda bummed me how all these turned out, it was... I dunno, it just didn't feel like the old days, granted, back in the day cartoons were campy as hell, but they were a lot simpler, and seriously, how can you NOT put one of the most memorable and squishy villains in a cartoon like this? Krang frickin' rules! He was tough as nails in the games always bitch slapping you about, him are The Shredder were the most vilest things in the universe, working together!

*sighs* anyway, moving on, last year, I learned about these new CG-animated Turtle series made by Nickelodeon, I decided to check it out... and when I laid my eyes on the "new" April design... well, I got really pissed, no, no, that's an understatement, I was piss-drunk MAD! Seriously, April's design reminded me of Jessie from Toy Story 2, with Dash's face from The Incredibles! WTF?? Ugh, and worst, she was supposed to be a teenager now, because the writers decided that a woman hanging with teenage boys would seem foul...

So, after beating up my head against the wall, I resigned, okay, I see what they're doing, they're really doing it kid-friendly, okay, okay, I don't even have cable anymore, so I'll probably won't watch it anyways, let's carry on with our lives.

So, after a few months, I come back to check on how the new series is doing, and found again with the urge to kick something hard, and repeatedly... why? Because Teen April is now a love interest to... Donatello??? SERIOUSLY WTFFF??? Oh man, I can NOT express how PISSED I am by this fact, I mean, the reason why they made April a teenager is because it was WRONG for an adult woman to hang with mutant teens, right? But now, suddenly it's okay for her to go into inter-species relationships?? They made April a scaly, a frickin' scaly (the reptile-fetish counterpart of furries), seriously, WHAT THE FUCK?

Ugh, let me explain how this is WRONG no matter in which liberal world you live in, well, first of all, they're TEENS, second, one is a mutated TURTLE living in the SEWERS, and the other is a human girl, DEAR GOD, why? Just why? Can you imagine how many diseases April would get from even kissing him? Mouth to mouth??

And okay, now let's compare it with the adult versions of April, sure, Apes used to kiss the turtles every now and then, but more motherly, there's a nice word, while Splinter was the FATHER figure of the turtles, April symbolized the MOTHER figure, that's why they saved her all the frickin' time, sure, they would hit on her platonically, but EVERYONE knew, that turtle-on-human action was wrong! The turtles knew it, April knew it, the directors knew it, and WE knew it, that's why April fell in love with Casey Jones and married him, is that logic too hard to understand?

Ugh anyway, rant's over... I guess, well, whatever the case, all of the Aprils in my pic are happy, all is well until Michael Bay's take on the raping of our childhood comes.

Aprils are property of... whoever, I've lost track who won the raffle this time.
Pic made by me.

I kind of like human/anthro romances

Aside from the original comic (which I've never actually read) I don't recall the turtles ever been serious and menacing :/

Well, you haven't watched the first movie, nor seen any epic fanart of the turtles facing the Shredder, not even the 90s' show was this "cute", I mean, Jesus Christ, it looks like instead of mutagen, the turtles were bathed in My Little Pony shit =_=

Oh please, I've seen the first movie. I remember when it came out and yeah, it was awesome enough, Shredder was badass, and while the turtles were a little harsher they were still silly, making lots of jokes, sometimes hot headed, and childish. Everything I've seen try for the darker, and harsher, approach in recent years usually fails within a season or two. (Moment of silence for the Thundercats reboot)
Actually, I wouldn't sy they were bathed in My Little Pony shit. I'd say they were bathed in Manga. It seems obvious to me that they're going for a CGI manga look.

I don't know, I just find the show fun. But then, I also like Teen Titans Go

What's neoliberalism?

610gonzalez In reply to Dragonrider1227 [2013-08-24 01:39:54 +0000 UTC]

Extreme or modern liberalism, not politically, but rather socio-culturally, neoliberalism, is when "open-mindness" reaches critical levels and any and EVERY act is considered "normal", like, having sex with animals (you bet your ass that P.E.T.A. is neoliberal), having sex with trees (vegans are considered highly neoliberal), almost every fetish is considered normal, foot fetish, fetish for little girls with cocks, or with cocks coming out of their boobs (seriously, have you been to 4chan? Top of the neoliberal food chain), and so on, of course, other fetishes are still considered taboo because of the highly bad "moral" implications, like, fetish for dead bodies, which is essentially a crime with no victim, but still, neoliberals act all hypocrite when it comes to stuff like that

Anyway, yep, these are strange and neoliberal times we live in, though I generally just call 'em liberal anyway, since old liberalism is kinda dead nowadays.

Oh, I see. So you believe the whole Don/April thing is neoliberal because it's encouraging sex with animals?
To be honest, while I find sex with animals gross, I actually like human/anthro romances. I even made a human/anthro pairing OC.

Yeah man, but there's more stuff to life that doing couple art, I'm really sick to see pairings EVERY DAY in the TMNT groups I've joined, I mean, come on, why can't people draw fights between the turtles and shredder, or heck, even other OCs but doing SOMETHING ELSE besides romancing, GOD, it just frickin ticks me off to see all that crap and I feel it has become a sex trend pretty much like MLP, except I've never been a fan of that so I pretty much didn't care how fans raped the continuity.

Dragonrider1227 In reply to 610gonzalez [2013-08-24 03:46:03 +0000 UTC]

I'll agree to that. It's not really the art itself that bugs me (although there is a lot of it) It's the inevitable shipping war between him and Casey Jones and nothing in my opinion ruins a fandom more than shipping wars.

As a guy who's followed TMNT since I was a kid, I actually like the new April design and don't mind at all that one of the turtles are attracted to her. They always seemed attracted to her actually. Did you blink in the movie when Mikey kissed the TV and when "I'm in love!" Sure, it was mainly for comedy but still showed that they are in fact attracted to her. I never saw a "motherly" figure in her. Just the "damsel in distress" role which is why I like this version of her. While she does need to be saved from time to time, she's closer to the same level as they are now. She trains with them, she fights with them, Splinter even gave her her own weapon. They're practically equals.

That said, nice picture

Ugh, I'm actually starting to get annoyed even more by this specific series of TMNT in general, ever since I joined TMNT Groups to submit this pic, I keep seeing really damn corny, insterspecies, and sometimes incest TMNT love pics, wtf, I really miss the time when the turtles we more serious and actually didn't act their age, it's unfair how modern liberal art can slowly kill the idea you had of your childhood heroes, even WORSE than Michael Bay ever could.

Something I will attest to. I do get the annoyance of everyone and everything having to be "younger."Β This sudden desire to make everyone like Spider-Man.Β Like this Iron Man series I saw on Nicktoons and they decided it would be a teenager. Or Legion of Super Heroes where everyone, even SUPERMAN appeared to be a teenager. While I think this actually works with TMNT I can see why it would be irritating.

The current series actually reminds me a lot of the original. A little sillier but it's why I like it. I can't take something about a bunch of turtles who know martial arts that seriously

Not sure where it gets liberal though other than maybe April being treated as an equal to them rather then the damsel in distress. Yeah, it happens in the new series but not as often.

Okay first of all, beautiful artwork.Β  No question there.Β  As a fellow old timer I too have enjoyed the myriad incarnations of April, all with their own unique charm.

Β

That said, I think you may over-reacting just a touch to this crush thing... for one thing, its one-sided on Donnie's part, April seems content to either ignore or downplay it to preserve their friendship.Β  Second, I hear Casey Jones is joining the cast next season.Β  Perhaps he will be the final nail in the coffin so you no longer have to fear "scaley's" and all species can stick to their "own kind" so it doesn't disgust you.

Whoa! A compliment followed by a sniding insult, my kind of comment!

Okay, first of all, it don't matter if the crush is one sided or not, what BOTHERS me, is that the reason they made April a teen, instead of a hot fully developed woman, was that it didn't seem "appropriate" for the writers that a woman her age be hangin' with teens, however, the DO think it's apropriate to imply turtle-on-human shipping, starting God-knows how many sexual fanfics that DO involve interspecies and DO involve sex, I mean, couldn't they see this coming? Hadn't they NOT seen the Brony fanbase? Just sayin'

My two faves are the Aprils in yellow. as for the possibility of the pairing of Apritello in the new series, its a nice thought but you have to understand first girl any of the turtles have seen and Donnie ends up crushing on her like a geek on a cheerleader.

I think April as a teenager was a fair move. They made the turtles in this series actually act like teenagers so having mature 20 something April hanging out with them would have been weird. Also if you ranked April on whether she was "boinkable" I question your interest in the character to begin with.

As for Donnie's crush it is a cute addition to the series nothing more and has a surprising fanbase. And if you're worried about disease and stuff... I should remind you this is a cartoon about humanoid ninja turtles trained by their rat sensei in the NYC sewers. Reality does not apply here. Other cartoons have gone the humanxinsertnonhumanhere route several times. Gargoyles, Beauty and the Beast etc. so perhaps because I grew up with those is why I don't see much wrong with it.Β

As for the art I like it and I love the background which is reminiscent of turtle shells. Well played. : D Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

610gonzalez In reply to timebrushedink [2013-08-12 07:10:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but you certainly must see how hypocritical of the writers is to say "mature woman with teenagers? = BAAAAD, teenage girl in inter-species relationship? = GOOD!" seriously, as I stated, I reluctantly understood the point of making April a teen, but it's like Nick shot themselves in the foot MOMENTS later after deciding that interspecies is right.

And yes, it's a cartoon, as as I said in another comment earlier, Donnie might be the cleanest turtle that ever existed, but there's still the word "mutant" in the title, mutants by radioactive material, meaning spending "friendly" time with a mutant turtle, at least as far as fanfic has taken it, would be hazardous to April, and your point is kinda unfair if you're gonna say that it's more "natural" for a teen April to hang with teen turtles, and at the same time accuse me of being too "realistic" :/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

timebrushedink In reply to 610gonzalez [2013-08-12 16:11:10 +0000 UTC]

I said a 20 something spending all her time with 15 year olds was "weird" and is something you can apply to real life experience too. How many 25 year olds hang out of 15 year old kids? When I say "realistic" I meant that you're watching a cartoon about mutant teen turtles. You can't apply true science and other things to this world. In real life if you were hit by a can of radioactive ooze you wouldn't mutate it would probably just die from radiation burns or whatever. If Bruce Banner was hit by gamma radiation in real life he would have died instantly not turn into the Hulk. Cartoons don't need to worry about those things because they could say "the hell with it". Real world limitations don't always apply. On that note there is no indication that the turtles are radioactive or poisonous.Β

I do however see your point about Nick shooting themselves in the foot but they have so far shown no indication of an interspecies relationship other than friendship. You can say they shot themselves once they step over that line. : )

I am a fan of just about every incarnation of the Turtles. I did not like Next Mutation and I am dreading the up coming movie.

April in the 2012 version does not love Donnie. Donnie has a crush on her. She holds no interest in him beyond friendship. They are bringing in Casey so April will probably fall for him. The new show is actually really funny, you just have to let go of the past. They have little Easter eggs in the show for the older watchers like you and me. I personally love how they developed the Turtles in this one, because for the first time they look and act like 15 year old boys. And I have never love Splinter as much as I do in this show. I will admit that I do not like the design of Casey, but I'm trying to reserve judgment for after I see him.Β

The 2k3 series did follow the comics closer and if you hated it for not having Krang then don't ever read the original comics, because he did not exist. Bebop and Rocksteady were never in the original comic either. The Shredder was killed in the first issue in the comic and didn't appear again for several issues, he was brought back by mystic worms and then was killed again. The Turtles went out in space and traveled through time and cross detentions and fought along side superheroes. It's actually really great. The fans of that comic hated the 80's cartoon. The 90's movie actually took some scenes from the comics too.

I stopped liking the 2k3 series when they had them go to the future. I did not like the change in art styles or that they had them yell "It's ninja time."

They have Krang, Shredder and eventually will have Bebop and Rocksteady in the new comic so maybe you will like that more. April is even an adult in it. And the Neutrinos!!!

not trying to be snitty just informative. please don't read any of this the wrong way. <3

Heh, don't worry about it, I was just kidding, at least you used paragraphs

Eh, I don't consider myself a huge know-it-all of TMNT, just an old fan, who used to draw them whenever he could back in the day, still don't like much of what I've seen about the Nick TMNT, I know they're most like real teens, but they aren't supposed to be like that all, they were raised in the sewers, in isolation, and trained in the art of the ninja, no liberal media to pollute their minds, no YOLO/SWAG b/s, how many teens can say that nowadays?

I miss their old personalities, mostly the ones from the first two movies, Leo always the cool-headed leader, Donnie the uber-nerd that no one understands (nor cares to), Raph the complete opposite of Leo, a raging lunatic with a thirst for violence (gotta love Raph) and Michelangelo... I guess the one that... Splinter dropped as a baby or something...
