Description
This is a Syrpus Balteatus (fake wasp). We call them a 'zweefvlieg' in Dutch. Yesterday I had a mission to capture one in midair. In the end I succeeded! This is the result! Again no manipulating, just a crop.
I hope you like it!
The photo Drone fly by inspired me to try this capturing in flight.

Nice capture. Try to flash with set up softbox on camera flash in this type of light. Effect will be much better. Regards.

Thanks for the reply and advice, man! Appreciated! But I have a non dslr camera without a possibility for an external flash (no hot-shoe). I can setup my flash intensity though! I'll try flashing at low level next time...

Sorry for my superlate response... holidays..
Very interesting... Not quite sure if I can see how it's made though...
I tried flashing and that really gives interesting results. I'll start posting them in the next days... if I can find time!

Why? Because it is too distracting? Or too blurry? I'd like to know why
Thanks anyway for your comment! Appreciated!

How does one go about taking pictures of something in midair? Seems like it'd be kind of difficult.

70hn In reply to BurningPaperSun [2007-07-12 06:28:18 +0000 UTC]
Chasing is the trick in this case... kevLewis shot his Drone fly by waiting at a specific point as the fly followed the same path over and over. (Characteristic of that specific fly.) In my case it meant chasing the fake wasp for quite some time and wasting dozens of shots before getting the right one I've got a few good ones from behind, but I really wanted one from the front... It makes you really nervous because you'll miss a lot of good opportunities while shooting!
Thanks for the comment and the ! Greatly appreciated

Haha! Me too But this is shot with a 'normal' digital camera. One with which you can set everything manual though... I've never been happier with a photo camera...

BurningPaperSun In reply to 70hn [2007-07-12 17:48:30 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the one I have isn't all that manual.

Please don't tell me you shot all those great pictures in your gallery with a normal camera without a manual mode... I find that very hard to believe...

Haha, yeah. I used a nikon L3 for a while and then a Nikon L6. I can use a dslr because my friend Miranda has a nifty one. But I don't have any of the pictures that I've taken with that camera.

Wow and here u used Aperture priority
hymmmm .. i think its impossible to take this kin dof shot without macro lens , right?
i hv also seen a shot of flying bird which was also captured by using macro lens but inthat one can easily see wings of flying bird ..but i think we can not compare a flying bird shot with a bee ..
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
70hn In reply to abart [2007-07-10 07:06:10 +0000 UTC]
Hey man! No, this perfectly possible with the H2 without macro lens. The freezing of the wings is almost impossible on a wasp. Depending on the bird it might be possible. In Aperture mode (in case of the H2), when your aperture is above 5.6, you can have shutterspeeds of max 1/2000st sec. But of course it depends on the available light you can get this speed or not....
