Welcome ^^ I want to try and experiment with some more color theory and such, but my colors always seem to come out muddy for some reason D:

Well I do the base color with watercolors and then do the shading and details with colored pencils. Like in this painting: sta.sh/01bjw7u3oz08 The blues were a little more profound but still seemed muddy and messy

Do you do a lot of layering with the watercolors, or is it just one color and then you use color pencils?

It depends. But usually it's 1-2 layers with watercolors and then a lot of layers with colored pencils. I also use markers after the watercolor layers and between the colored pencil layers.

Maybe the markers then? I've found that using markers over top of color pencils and watercolors keeps them from blending as well as they could, and can ultimately cause it to be a little muddy. I actually did that on a recent piece and was kicking myself for it. XD
