Not really, its all about scope of size. Its just like images in video games. If you looked at a pixelized image on the screen close up it would look like nothing, but the more you draw out from it the pixels start to blur and the image takes shape.

Really amazig when you think about it thats why i love old games. how a bunch of squares of different colors can make up a beautiful image.

Those SMRPG sprites are quite difficult with the how they're laid out, so I believe it.
