When I first started out as an artist I had a very firm mindset that I would never sell art. I believed that art and creativity was a part of the Earth, for everyone living on it to enjoy freely. Well, somewhere along the way I lost that feeling. The older I got, the more responsibilities I had. Money, which was once something I hated, became something I needed. (Just to clarify why I hated money. As a young man, I dreamed of becoming a sort of hobo, living off the land and stuff. Obviously there's a lot more details to that but that's a whole different story on its own.) Anyways, as my dream of being a hobo died and I was faced with the swift backhand of society and its rules, I guess I changed my outlook on art. My art turned into a tool. For years I kept trying to take and take from the world using my art. The stress of trying to make a living as an artist actually caused me to hate my art, I've started to resent it. How do you move forward when you hate the very thing bringing you there? My point is, I'm done with the stress. I've decided to return to my roots. I'm starting a new series called "For You". Once a week I'm doing a painting and giving it to the people of my city or any city that I happen to visit. I'll be leaving them in the streets on park benches, bus stops and other places. I'm not done with selling art though, my more detailed and time consuming work will still be for sale. I'm just done with always worrying about selling and making money. I'm putting "For You" first and selling art second. I'm just done with always trying to take, it's time to give.
