Description
One of my watchers recommended I could do multiple short sketches to improve much faster. So I did this in one night. I never did this angle but I like the result for the most part. I hope not too many things look awkward in this one. Honestly, this looks leagues better than the other 4 drawings a posted beforehand. Hope you like it!akarudsan

I'm not sure why, but this simple pose of her looking up in thought looks so dynamic. I think it's the shading. Also, I like the semi-realistic approach. It works well for the tone of this piece. Great work.

Looks great! You know what you can also do to make it more realistic and it will only take something like 20 seconds is to use your finger to smudge thing to indicate the roundness of forms of make that smooth transition. As an example, drag your finger from the neck to hair to chin dark spot out to the neck. Don't press to firmly, just drag it. It will add roundness to the neck. Same with cheeks and hair as well. Try it, even on this sketch.

Sorry for the late response. I appreciate the feedback. I don't really smudge b/c for many years all of my art teachers have greatly discouraged me from smudging. So, I just kept everything else white b/c it's was getting late. I'll try it out next time if I start using charcoal. I'm just afraid I would ruin it.

Well, what can I say. My art teacher back when I was in school eons ago told me, in a nutshell, that my art sucks and I should not draw at all....which I didn't till I turned 40 three years ago. So now I know that sometimes what teachers say isn't true. Try smudging, you won't ruin anything because first of all it's a sketch and not meant to be sold as some neat drawing; second of all, it's art and highly subjective so who is to judge that it's good or bad? But you will see the results so much faster with smudging. And, btw, it doesn't matter if you're using graphite or charcoal for smudging, the results are the same.

I guess at the end of the day, there aren't any rules. I'll give it a go when I have the chance next time. Also, I feel bad that you had that happen in your life. It reminds me of the artist, PlagueofGripes, he gave up on art as a child only to revisit it many decades later. Thanks for frequently commenting here b/c I do feel like there has to be people that like my works.
