I can't wait 'till Mass Effect 3, so I can see if I can either mock this guy with the same technique, or straight out punch him in the face.

Ah yes, the turian councilor. The idiotic reptilian huminoid, with the most amusing line in the game, which is allegedly the only reason I ever want to visit the presidium. I can verify that claim.

He and the Salarian are asses. I always felt the Asari was more understanding, even if she didn't agree with me.

ME2 was great for character development but ME1 was cool cause you get to drive the Mako over monkeys and Geth XDDD
And Saren was in it along with blowing up stuff everywhere you went without getting in trouble.
Stuck on whether to save the council or let them die :/
The Turian guy made me mad cause he was a racist little bitch to humans in the beginning >:< I liked the Salarian more
They should have given Lorik more time in the game, like help you with stuff and information for helping him with the false charges against him.

That's the one thing I love about ME is the horrible fun in running animals over and your crew cheer when ya do...except Liara who ruins it with her comments. "This is why your species has a bad reputation Commander"

When you are on the planet full of monkeys if you run over enough your crew sometimes laughs or exclaims that you are cruel when you run over the monkeys. I had Wrex and Garrus with me so I don't know if all the others say anything but they did.
Wrex laughed when I ran over like 5 Pyjaks and Garrus said It was cruel but amusing.

Pyjaks are those annoying space monkeys that steal stuff, you have to kill one to get a badge back to this guy Hackett
Its an important mission, they are found on Eletania in ME1 but are also on Tuchanka in ME2.

lol no, there's a point in which Grunt mentions how humans, asari and salarians are squishy. Then he says "Quarians, not so much. And Turians, you'd have to be good with a knife to get under those plates. But what's the point? Get it....'No point." Ah, forget it...."

I didn't save the council and am still not sure that not saving them was a good thing... And yeah, I hated the Turian Counselor - even if he had the occasional good point...
I have to say that I think ME2 is a vast improvement over 1, in most regards, actually. Then again, I've not finished it and am only halfway through my first loyalty mission, so we'll see!

When the council treated me like a madman in ME2... I swear I considered just quitting and importing the same save but with the council dead. (First time I finished the game, I focused on Sovereign. Then I felt guilty and saw it was Renegade. Plus I read they'll be "forever in my debt", so I figured it was the better thing to do and loaded the auto-save, and saved them. I guess I was wrong.)

They should do what Obsidian did in KOTOR2, have the crew talking on the side when Shepard is not always present. I'd rather be shown the characters personality, than have them tell me in long conversations. Bioware did improve over ME1 and you get to see the characters personalities in their loyalty and recruitment missions. I hate the fact that in ME1 the only time they have casual conversation is in the elevators. I hate the elevators. Also, Shepard is completely silent in those conversations. For example, the conversation where Wrex asks Kaidan who would win in a fight between Kaidan and Shepard. Shepard should be able to say something there, come on!

Yeah, I really miss the banter. What I REALLY miss is being able to click on (pc user ) a squad mate and have them say something no matter where we are... the missions and quests have grown so silent. And just having little view points feels very limited... and I also don't like going around looking for them... I also liked the romance conflict from ME1, I felt that the romances in ME 2 lost a little something by being so formulaic and disconnected. Though I did still enjoy them

PirateRose In reply to A-forsteri [2010-08-26 18:32:52 +0000 UTC]
I hope you do realize I was saying negative things about ME1. I disagree with everything you say and find ME2 a vast improvement over ME1. I hate elevators, the banter was only in the elevators. So I spent most of the game never hearing it because I took the shuttle everywhere. Addtionally, I hated the fact Shepard was completely silent in all of the conversations on the elevators, even if the conversation involved Shepard.
Being able to click on people wherever you are for only two short lines of dialogue that just cycle when you keep clicking on this is not something I care to have back. That's not conversation that develops a character. That's a pointless waste of disc space.
I mean, just compare Garrus's ME side mission to his ME2 side missions. In ME1 he just stood there stiffly and stated things. In ME2 he moves around, shows personality, emotion, range of voice, most importantly character development. In ME1, if you kill Dr Saleon, Garrus will state that he is satisfied like it's a fact, not how he feels. In ME2 he says he'll kill Sidonis so he can be satisfied and you can really tell just by his tone of voice and actions that's how he truly feels.
The LI relationships are not forced on you in ME2 because you're getting to know the character. I swear to god, without fail, no matter how I get Liara on the team, she's head over heels in love with Shepard first conversation and is asking if Kaidan is involved with Shepard. I just finally figured out the right combination in the dialogue tree to keep Kaidan talking without creating a romance with him. The confrontation if you try to romance both just falls flat. At the very least in ME2 if you try to romance more then one, they are fairly mature about it and avoid trying to create a huge conflict. They basically tell Shepard to quit it and pick someone, they're not willing to play that game.

I know what your saying. And I agree with almost all of it. I did like the individual side missions in ME2 and how many options were available for romance. And I understand the problems people have with the ME1 romances seeming rather mandatory. But I do miss the bits of banter from ME 1. I wouldn't miss them so much if they allowed us to get know characters in ME2 better with out having to romance them. I felt pretty let down with characters like Jack who I would have liked to talk to more but who decided not to talk to me anymore. I realize they have a lot of characters going and I like the bigger role character specific quests take but I'm a person who likes a lot of dialog and integration and for some aspects of that I prefer ME 1.
I have to agree with you though... even though I romanced Liara in ME 1 she is pretty lol in love with you right from the start XD
And I'm very glad the returning squad mates got bigger roles. I was so sad when Garrus stopped talking to me in ME 1 after his short side quest. The Sidonis mission is a big improvement.
I also miss the Mako . Of course I haven't played ME 1 for a long time so maybe its just fond memories lol @_@ I may not agree with everything but you make some very good points and its always nice to have a discussion about this since I'm a person who enjoys nitpicking at everything

As much as I loved all the characters in ME2, I think they did get in over their heads with putting too many. I believe they were trying to establish the Jesus and 12 Disciples thing. What they should have done was have about 9 in ME2, Tali and Garrus returning and then 7 others, 6 with the normal recruitment and Legion as the special seventh recruited as he is now. Then the last three would be from ME1 the VS, Liara, and Wrex. Or even perhaps, they should have split the characters up in ME2, having the rest added in ME3. Keep the same familiar faces, add some new ones in the final part of the series.
The other issue is they all seem to have separate stories going on, but they don't really add to the major story, which gives the misconception there is no story at all in ME2. I think ME2 is more about introducing the rest of your possible team for ME3. ME2 is just a bridge between the first and third game, nothing more. It's just the characters are detached from the plot. Their individual stories seem to outshine it.
I used to miss the Mako. I replayed ME1 again, and just driving around those worlds don't seem to hold any charm anymore. It felt too much like a chore trying to get everything done.

I would definitely agree that they got a little carried away with how many characters there were. It makes me wonder how they're going to handle that for ME3. It seems that at this point no matter what they do they'll probably end up upsetting someone's fans. Or, if they try to include all the squad mates, having to much on the plate. Having 9 would have been fine with me. I really wonder what is going to happen to DLC characters like Zaeed. Despite his lack of scroll wheel and constant rambling I've kinda grown fond of him. But I wouldn't be upset if he only made a cameo in ME 3, or if some one just talked about him. If it would lighten the load so the focus could be more concise.
I also agree that ME 2 seemed much more about your squad than the main mission. Which is in some ways good, it allowed us to get to know them with out trying to balance too much at once. But then again I was left with the feeling of yeah the collectors are bad but they're clearly just a stepping stone... and wtf terminator lol. I also was a bit confused because if the collectors were mentioned in ME 1 I either don't remember or I missed it because this was news to me. I do like how the main story added to the protheans and the supposed fate of all the other races in the galaxy before the modern time. And the base was pretty awesome, some really great cut scenes. But at that point my goal was making sure everyone lived because I'd grown attached to them rather than like... oh no collectors
Exploring worlds is boring... this is very true... but I love the Mako for two reasons. Defying the laws of physics and shaking up the brains of my crew like a peas in tin cans

Ah the Turian Councilor.
I so hope Shepard gets to finally put that arrogant idiot in his place in Mass Effect 3. Though my Shepard is a paragon most of the time I would have him punch the Turian Councilor if the appropriate renegade interrupt appeared during a face to face diatribe by said Councilor.
It would be nice if he got to do the same to Donnel Udina as well - I really hate that guy and glad I chose Anderson for the Council instead of him.
