Description This is the first part of this -----> [link] in colour, obviously it's not finished yet, but I just liked how the colour had worked out so much that I just had to post it. That and I need help. I'm now stuck as to which direction to go in.

1st thing that I'm stuck on is what base colour to put on the tail. Do I go dark or light? Green or blue?

2nd thing is what colour to do her hair. I don't want to do a 'natural' colour and I was thinking either blue or green or maybe even silver, but I can't decided and my head's about to explode so please help!

Thankies and please let me know what you think of it so far.

Hmm, maybe make the tail greener at the base and then have it fade to blue as it turns into the water? I like the idea of the silver hair.
The perspective and pose of this are great, and your shading is fantastic - if I can just crit a few things, though, her eyes seem to be looking in different directions, her bottom lip seems abit large and out of line with the top one, and her hairline's just a little high. Feel free to ignore this, of course.

Hmmm so silver hair seems to be the genral consensus

You caught me, her eyes nearly made me want to kill myself, at one point she was cross eyed, her bottom lip is a bit big I will freely admit but I couldnt seem to make it look good any thiner, it made her look really mean , and is her hairline really that high? I've got a high hairline and mine's a bit like hers (it should be as I used mine and a mirror for refrence) does it look very freakish? And I would never ignore stuff that's trying to help me, I only ignore thoese pea-brained idiots who comment with things like 'It sucks' and nothing else they make me so mad

KatKitChan In reply to A-Redheads-Ramblings [2007-11-12 12:43:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, eyes are really hard - I always have to redraw them several times before I'm happy. And I know what you mean - I often /know/ something's not accurate but can't get it to look good otherwise. Her hairline's not really that bad, it just struck me personally as a little odd. Shouldn't make a difference.
Ah, yes, the flamers. >_> I haven't caught too many of them so far, but I agree; they are very irritating. I find it's best to just ignore them.

Oh they so are and trying to get them to match up is horrid! You get one looking how you want it but can you get the other too? No siree you can't gahhh! I have drawn alot of pics with people winking for that reason Her hailine propably looks weird cause I was trying to get it to look like it was being swept back by the water and could I find a good refrence? You bet your ass I couldn't

Flamers are idiots and that's all there is to it

I used to do that a /lot/, but sometimes it's not really appropriate One way I've worked out for direct-on views is to trace one eye and flip it, but this doesn't work for 3/4 views and almost all my pics seem to turn out as those. >_>
Oh, I hate it when I can't find a good reference for a pic >< although what's /worse/ is giving up, drawing the pic as best you can, then when it's nearly finished finding the /perfect/ ref. Gah.
No arguments here.

A-Redheads-Ramblings In reply to KatKitChan [2007-11-13 18:43:34 +0000 UTC]

Wait it has to be appropriate? so that's where I've been going wrong lol.
3/4 view can be such a *itch sometimes that's why I try an avoid them or give em long floppy hair so I don't have to do both eyes.
Gah refrences are a pain all I can say is thank god for goggle! It has saved my ass on more than one occasion.

XD
I guess...and I do like drawing long flowy hair But eyes can really make a pic if done right.
You mean Google, right? 'Cos everyone knows the goggles, they do nothing. But yeah, it does help with refs, though not always.

Yep. I love characters with long hair, too. Preeeeeetty....
Too right. I can actually draw eyes on their own OK, it's when I have to do them in context of a face that it becomes hard >_>

So floaty ahhhhhhhhh ......... *blink* wait where am I? And what was I doing?

I can draw one eye on it's own it's pairing the little buggers up that's the problem and then adding the rest of the face it is not good

I blame disney for my love of floaty long hair, it's cause of the Little Mermaid *hides face in shame* why'd they have to make it so pretty plus it was love for the red heads which we never get enough of.
Cause life's a *itch

I love Lilo and Stitch and Finding Nemo, as well. They're just so damn cute.

Stitch is so awesome! And also cute and fluffy! I love that little alien! And Finding Nemo was cute

We do not speak of that abomination and its butchery of everything that was good about the first movie. It went straight to Sequel Hell, like most of them.

Me too! He is indeed. And I loved Finding Nemo, it was adorable.

Thank god you said that All I can say about that movie (and every other sequel they've done but especially little mermaid 2) is Why Disney? Why?

I have so many plushies of Stitch it's starting to become a problem I liked the pelican the best in that movie

...Because they like to milk their properties for all they're worth but have no idea exactly what makes them appealing, or any concept of restraint or balance?
For example: Mulan 2.
Mulan: "Hey, people seem to like the warrior chick idea, let's have her teach lots of ugly kids to fight but show lots of gooey romantic feelings to confirm she's a girl! We don't actually need some real enemies or for her to show any sign of intelligence or spine!"
Shang: "Hey, people seem to like the stong, commanding type who trusts in his men, let's ram a stick up his ass so far it comes out his nose! And while we're at it, have him forget all common sense and blindly trust three incompetent soldiers to the point he's escorting three princesses across the country with no baggage, armour or other guards!"
Mushu: "Haha, American-accented spunky dragon! Crank up the obnoxiousness factor a bit more! No, more than that. More. No, still more. Keep going! And make the respected Ancestors his slaves! No one will notice the change in portrayal!"
Shoehorn in Those Three Guys being obnoxious and retarded, along with Those Three Princesses (who are just as stupid in a giggly way) being for some reason smitten with them and all 'my duty compels me but yet I can't help being in LUUUUURVE' (I had such hopes the one in blue might be sensible, until she was revealed to be just as retarded as the rest of them), a song which does not rhyme sung by girls who can't sing, a country which was never mentioned before apparently populated by ugly inbred idiots, and a sappy, sugary, COMPLETELY IMPLAUSIBLE ending, and there you have it: Mulan 2.
I mean, I love you and all Disney, but GAWD. Stay away from the sequels. Unless you have someone who knows what they're doing on board, anyway. ixarNomura

It's worth a look It's not as good as it could have been, mainly because of the aforementioned cliche, but it does have some freaking awesome moments, plus James Marsden hams up the dumb but handsome prince to hilarious levels. Also, the 2D cartoon intro was beautiful and nostalgic and hilarious all at once, as was the pantomiming squirrel (if you've seen it, you know the bit I mean) and the gigantic song-and-dance number in the middle.

There were so many good bits in the movie, despite the sappy ending. And yes, James Marsden does a fantastic job (and really suits the role, too). My favourite bit is still Pip's pantomiming Giselle and Nathaniel, though. I laughed out loud at that.
Have you seen the music video for the song at the end, 'Ever Ever After', by the way? They animated the girl who sang it (Carrie Underwood) in the 2D style from the start, and it's really pretty - and the song itself is nice, too.

I think Pip is my favourite character but honestly, they're all pretty awesome so it's hard for me to decide.

It's true Then again, this is a video about a girl from a 2D cartoon world who gives off sparkly golden things that make people act nicely, so realism's obviously taken a back seat. XD

My sentiments exactly - though 'warped' is not precisely the word I would have used.
Whenever I find myself disliking Disney, though, I have to remind myself that they /did/ give us Kingdom Hearts.

'Shaped' has almost the same meaning, but it's ambiguous enough to leave us plausible deniability should our statements ever be used against us.
Yeah.....almost. <urposely does not mention Chicken Little>

Kids nowadays are kind of jaded with that though. They want witty, ironic twists on fairytales instead. Although they /are/ going back to 2-D, apparently, so who knows, maybe there's hope yet.

Eeeeeeerrrr.....I'd say all the incest, rape, adultery, petty blood feuds and fratricide/patricide/matricide would rule that out, but hey, they /did/ manage to pull off Hercules (and pretty damn well, too!).

A-Redheads-Ramblings In reply to KatKitChan [2008-01-30 23:03:27 +0000 UTC]

There isn't all that much in the story of Romulus and Remus, in fact it's quite tame (by ancient legends standards anyway) but I figure if they can butcher the legend of Heracles to make it into a Disney movie they should have no problem with the rest of em

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KatKitChan In reply to A-Redheads-Ramblings [2008-01-31 12:34:56 +0000 UTC]

True (apart from the fratricide aspect). And yes, Hercules was a complete and utter bastardization of every bit of the original myth, but I still liked it. I'm a sucker for gospel music, even if it makes no sense to be singing gospel in ANCIENT GREECE.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KatKitChan In reply to A-Redheads-Ramblings [2008-02-02 13:36:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, okay, true. You'd think that with the amount of money they're spending on it they'd at least make an effort, though. I loved the Muses too, they were awesome, but all the characters were pretty cool (especially Meg, who was awesomely snarky). They all suffered a bit of character assassination in KH, though, but I think all the Disney characters who had their own world had that; I guess they needed to make them seem a bit less awesome so they didn't take the spotlight away from Sora.
